What Questions did you have for your Dr?

My consult is next week and I have a big list of questions specific to my situation to ask the Dr - but being as anal as I am and wanting to get as much out of Dr. Hardy's precious time as I can I thought I would ask you lovely ladies for your general input :).

What did/do you most want to ask the doctor regarding surgery? Is there anything you meant to ask but forgot until later?

Thanks in advance!

Most of my questions had to do with the difference between the 2 surgeries, as I hadn't really decided which one to go with...things like: Recovery time from each, success rate, stats of long term success rate, side effects (I wasn't really too keen on finding out about the high rate of acid reflux with the sleeve, especially b/c I suffered with it pretty badly with my pregnancies), "invasivenss" of each surgery, etc.
Good luck with your consult!!

At my first consult I was so sure I would be having the sleeve and based most of my questions on that. Dr. Vergis explained both which is good because I will be having the RNY as the sleeve is very dangerous for me because I have esophagus/stomach problems. I am at high risk for a leak.

This forum will provide you with a lot more information. The dr will talk about the different surgeries, you will have to see a nutritionist (cost me $200 for 3 visits) , have a phychologist (cost of $150.00) evaluate you. They will want you on an exercise program and not gain any weight. You may be expected to lose 10% of your weight. I was not told this until my 2nd consult with Dr. Vergis where he had insisted I had gained a ton of weight. I had gained maybe 2lbs but this was enough to set my surgery from summer to probably september. I was then of course very devastated. If I had known in January that I was to lose weight to ensure a summer surgery date I would have made sure to really pay attention to what I was eating. Even the nutritionist did not ask me to lose and I saw he 3 times; she was more concerned with getting me on a proper eating plan. I was exercising 2x a week at the Y and walking my dog but this was not enough. By the time my 3rd appt came around I had managed to lose 12 lb and was exercising up to 5x a week for 1 1/2 hours a day. I was then given my pre-op folder and sent for my pre-op blood work, chest x-ray and ekg. I was also scheduled for a barium swallow. After all of this you will also be given a form for your family doctor to fill out, you will need to have a physical. You will then have to see the nutrionist again for your MediTrim prescription and information about what to expect after surgery. I haven't seen her yet for this. There is again another cost of $200.00. The MediTrim if purchased at the clinic pharmacy is close to $200. It can be purchased from a company in Quebec for much cheaper.  Good Luck!
