7 months after surgery - Post Op Sleeve update
Wow, this board is booming! I haven't been here in quite awhile and it's great to see all the new people on the forum. I think it's important that we share our experiences and exchange info. I found this board so helpful when i was going in for surgery and afterwards...so 7 months out and......
- 87 lbs. gone
- I have NEVER yet felt hunger
- I have gone off all my meds for high blood pressure and cholesterol except for one. I expect that one to be cut within a month
- I am able to do the things I never would do before, and am an active participant in life instead of being an observer. I look forward to social outings instead of staying home because i was too fat and embarassed
- I have no reflux issues. no physical side effects
- I wear regular size clothes and still wait for the sales clerk to 'catch' me and tell me the plus sizes are 'over there'. But lo and behold I am a size 14 and gunning for a 12.
- I don't turn away when I see a mirror
- I am 19 lbs from NUT goal, 24lbs away from my personal goal
- my bmi has gone from 47 to 33.
- I no longer feel embarassed when my husband or son introduce me someone.
THe best thing I can share is that I don't obsess over what I eat. I follow a few basic rules - protein first, no breads, pasta and rice and no junk/fast food. I have learnt to eat what I have at home and have spent these months trying to develop the psyche of a 'normal' eater I am losing about 1 - 2 lbs a week and am thrilled with my progress.
I have learnt that a teasponn of something is plenty. The surgery gives us the gift of getting full fast, the way we fill up is up to us. The Dr. said that eventually the pouch will diulate and we will be able to hold more (never what our old stomach's do) so my goal has always been to learn how to be comfortable with food so that when I can hold more in my pouch these new habits will be just that...habits, and good choices will be automatic instead of what I used to do which is run out for a fast food fill up.. Interesting the Doc said that there is no rhyme or reason why some of us feel hunger or gain some weight back and some of us don't.. I don't ever want to go back to life before my sleeve.....
Good luck to everyone!!
