Baby after surgery?
Hello all,
I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about getting pregnant after surgery? Hubby and I have been discussing the possibility of a 3rd child...not sure yet...we thought we were done but are starting to entertain the idea of another. Are there any limitations or complications with pregnancy/labour after surgery? I think I'll probably be getting the sleeve...still waiting for my consult. I am a November referral.
Thanks!

They want us to wait 18-24 mos before a baby. With VSG you have no malabsorption so that helps. I am not sure if I am done either..maybe one more kid to make 4..LOL I have not heard of any WLS complications in labour, just in pregnancy. Making sure you get enough nutrition and not being in ketosis( dangerous for fetus) are the most important. If you are like me and nausea rules your life while pregnant, that may be a hard road to travel. UGH!..LOL The lil rotters are all worth it though. I have heard that our tummies, VSG or RNY "relax" a bit while pregnant. Helps get in more food and grow that baby!
Check out the pregnancy board. Lots of ladies over there who can give you more info. I just know for me, once my weight is stabilized for several months I will be talking to my doctor and midwife.
*fingers crossed for a fast consult date*

I asked Dr. Vergis about this and he said that the risks associated with pregnancy after bariatric surgeyr are far less than the risk associated with being obese and being pregnant.
He did mention the concerns with malabsorption, so you have to be diligent about taking your supplements. However, if you are no longer obese, then your risks of getting gestational diabetes are significantly reduced.
