Hopefully they will do a good psych evaluation and not do it for her.  I agree about being prepared and sounds like you did all the right things to prepare for yours.  Congrats!
You sounds like me, research everything!

Above all she needs to be responsible for herself.  I would tell her that and that you cannot be responsible for the success or failure of her procedure, if she gets it. Try not to let guilt in.  Be up front with her and remind her all that SHE needs to do for the success of the TOOL.

Maybe take her to the meet and greet? she could hear the work all you brave, hardworking ladies are doing to contribute to your successes!!
All the best!

I would give her information about all the side effects that can happen. Maybe it will make her change her mind.

Wow......... Pam this is a biggie.  Does she have any family?  Maybe you can discuss this with her family.  Maybe, suggesting that she probably won't be a surgical candidate due to smoking, and her other underlying illnesses.  How is she going to get on a plane if she is that anxious?  Maybe she should talk to her pyschiatrist and her GP and that will put her off.
Good luck on this one!

I spent 4 yrs researching WLS. It is not something I took lightly at all. I think, if she doesn't have internet, that she needs to get herself to the library and do her own research. if she really wants this she will make the effort. No matter what mental illness she has. She has to understand that life has to change before the surgery and that the surgery is not a cure all..it's a tool to help.

Encourage her to talk to her doctor(s) and to get some of her own info compiled. She will not have all the same questions and concerns as you. It is a very personal decision. Plus..she may need/want a different type of surgery after she has searched for info on WLS.

Hi Pam,

Wow, that is a lot for someone to dump on you.
No one can take responsibility for someone else's health.
I would suggest taking a step back. If she is truly serious about WLS, then she can find her own resources. You need to take care of your own needs right now.

Good luck,
Tanya

Pam it's kind of a touchy thing especially when it's your Friend. I don't think I would worry to seriously about it. I think she see's your weight loss success and maybe gets a little envious and starts to babble on about getting something done. Until she takes the physical steps to seek all the proper info and actually book the surgery. I would just let her rant about it. I agree with Sherry about the "SHRINK" testing, she likely wouldn't pass it anyway.
Besides all that Pam your just recovering from surgery and a trip. You don't need to be worrying about this right now. This is your time to heal and get feeling well again. Your a wonderful friend to do all of this for her. I hope she appreciates it. My advice? Leave the ball in her court. She has to take ownership of this, this is about her and her life.
