BMI?
Can someone please tell me the BMI range for surgery? I've already been approved for surgery (got my letter in Nov) but I've also been trying to loose some weight on my own. I've gone down 2 points. I guess I'm asking because I still want the surgery and I don't want my BMI to be too low...is that twisted thinking??
Even though my doc was completely supportive of the surgery and referred me right away, she's also would like me to see how far I can go on my own, so she's been weighing me every month. I still have about 80 pounds to go before I'm at my 'goal'. I don't think I can do it on my own but she thinks I can. Oh what to do?!

Good for you on your weight loss! Do we have the same Dr.s by chance? Ha!haha! My Dr. was the same way. I started WW in January of last year and by summer had lost 70 lbs. My Dr. still refer ed me for WLS to lose the last 80lbs or so. My BMI now is 40. Anyway I'm still having the surgery because in Sept I started to regain some of my weight. To date I have gained 25 lbs of that back. So with the surgery I'm hoping it will help me put an end to yo yo dieting for good. You have to do what you feel is good for you. Will you be able to maintain this weight loss on your own?. One thing that makes you lucky is you have already started to retrain your brain when it comes to food. So if you do decide to follow through with WLS your mind set is in a good place. Good luck with your decision....~Cheryl
Thanks ladies...you gave me a lot to think about. I definitely have never been able to keep my "lost pounds" off...I guess I am tired of trying "on my own". I was quite successful with WW a few years ago (was 20 pounds away from my goal) but then I didn't want to pay $10 each week just to get weighed in (after I had heard the full cycle of 'lectures'). But I guess you also pay for accountability b/c I gained it ALL back...and more!
My doc said that she doesn't want me having the surgery as an excuse to eat..."well, I'm having the surgery anyways so I may as well eat whatever I want". I guess I can see her point (it's a tricky mental game)....but I also don't want to go down too much further and be denied whenever I FINALLY get the call.
Thanks truly!
