CT Scan

Has anyone gone for a cat scan after surgery? I should have asked more questions.  Is it just pictures or are they going to have to inject me with dye?

A dream come true!

Is the scan related to the surgery?  or is it for something else?  Has the appointment been scheduled?

Hi Michelle;

I just looked online, and apparently CAT scans are sometimes used after gastric bypass surgery to check up on the digestive system. Yes, generally you do have to have some dye injected. (I've taken students for CT scans and they aren't painful.)

Are you feeling ok?

Tanya

I am having to go for a CT scan this week. I may have given myself an ulcer or maybe an hernia?? I can't remember which one the doctor said. I was a little upset at the appointment.

They are probably looking for an ulcer. I am very sorry that you are having difficulty.
Let's hope it turns out to be nothing.

Take Care,

Hey Michelle had to go for a CT scan just before I left for Florida when I was having those unexplained pains. They had mentioned that I might possibly have problems with my gallbladder and so I thought that's what they were looking.  But they were actually checking my sleeve to make everything was OK with it. Well all came back good with sleevey and Dr. Vergis said that sometimes people just have pain and they never really figure it out. The pain has almost completely diminished, the odd time I will have slight pain or cramping.

Now for the answer to your question (LOL)...yes they do inject you with dye, first they put an intravenous in, which is where the dye will be injected. Then they make you drink a couple of the nastiest tasting warm glasses of water. All this takes about an hour, and the actual test takes 3 minutes...maybe!!! When they are injecting you with the dye it feels like you have peed yourself...seriously!

Good luck with your test, and make sure you study hard!!! LOL!!! Hope everything is OK and quit worrying!!!

Good luck with your scan. However, with what little that you wrote nobody can tell if it will be infused or not (the kind that they inject the dye) or if you will have to drink the contrast. There are some ct scans that don't have any types of dye at all. My one and only CT had no dye - it was just like taking an x-ray. My CT was of my nose - I think or maybe my shoulder. Lol, I can't remember - I had been in an accident and hurt my shoulder but xray of that found something wrong with my nose so I had a CT but now am unsure why
Here's a link that might help youHope this helps.

Hi Michelle, I had a ct scan in January and it was no big deal. They do put an iv in put it was painless, I did have to drink some stuff, but i only drank about 3/4 of one cup and that was fine....after having rny it's hard to drink more in one sitting. The ct scan itself was painless, just like taking xrays, but you're lying down on a moving bed thingy. It does feel like you're going to pee, but that only last maybe 30 seconds or so. It's really no big deal and I'm the biggest woz around!!!
How are you feeling?  I had the ct scan because i was having stomach pains, then i had a gastroscopy and they found an ulcer. This is being treated by taking Nexium.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
take care,
sue
