Feeling disappointed
Received a letter from ST B today saying I don't meet the criteria for weight loss surgery - my BMI is too high. I feel like I got kicked in the gut it upset me so much. I have been trying for 3 years to lose weight and all I have lost is 20 lbs. I watch what I eat and I exercise and nothing. What more can I do?
I have been put on a waiting list if they should expand their criteria. My Doc will just say keep working at it. Oh my God, if I could lose the weight myself I wouldn't be asking for surgery, right?
Applying for out of province isn't really an option. We couldn't afford to have the whole family go and my son(he's autistic) would be uncontrollable if he couldn't see Mom for more than a day. That's why Winnipeg seemed like an answer to a prayer.
Just needed somwhere to voice my disappointment, as no one here knows that I asked for a referral - just didn't want or need their opinions of my choice. But I know you ladies will understand and maybe you have some ideas for me.

Do not give up! You can prove them wrong. Go on the liquid diet for awhile and loose a lot of weight and then try again. YOu must not give up hope. You can do this!!!! Keep up with OH and the monthly meet and greets for support. Join and weight loss group, exercise group.
Keep your head up! You will have your turn soon if not now next year perhaps.

Sorry to hear that, at least you are still on the waiting list. Lots can change with this program, it can't stay the way it is. There are men wanting to get the surgery, and people like yourself that did not meet the criteria. It will change, but not knowing when sucks and the waiting is so hard.
I believe they are following these guidelines to show the success of the surgery so that it can be opened up for everyone, but when?

I am so sorry that you got that letter, how I wi**** didn't happen. But I honestly do believe that they will open then criteria and I don't believe it will be that long either. Plus I believe that when they open the criteria they will also increase the monthly surgeries so your wait might be around the same anyway! Think positive they can't keep it like this forever!

Thanks for the support, I am hoping that I will qualify soon. Just kind of a let down...
I had hoped that I would at lest get to see one of the Dr's. I had heard that there was a limit for BMI and I thought well if it takes about 10 months to see the Dr I could lose the 40 lbs to be at 47. Guess I will have to lose it first and then be referred if possible.

UGH! Karen, I am so sorry to hear that you got the damn letter! GRR! I guess we will just all have to be patient with you! The program will change and they will do more surgeries soon. Until then you can try all of our weight loss tips and tricks..we're not going to give up on you!
Keep coming here and come to the meet n greets too! Will you be there tomorrow? Try not to get discouraged, it will work out! One way or another!
