So I feel a little silly but what does the RNY stand for. I know what the sleeve and lapband are. I keep reading it and I am a little unsure. I have been talking to some people who have had the sleeve and found it to be very easy....and a few others that are not very happy they did it. I quess that happens in anything though. I will try and stay positive.

It is Roux-n-Y which is a form of gastric bypass.

Hi Sue,

The Roux-en-Y is a surgical procedure developed by Dr. Roux which makes your digestive system look like the shape of a "Y". It is like the sleeve in that it begins by reducing the size of your stomach. However, unlike the sleeve, it also reroutes your intestine so that not as much of the food you eat is digested and absorbed properly. Usually, if you have complications due to obesity such as high blood pressure or sleep apnea, they suggest the RNY because data suggest that this procedure has a high chance of reversing these conditions.

The RNY was right for me, but many people are very happy with their sleeve!
