Thanks everyone. Love reading all the comments. It is giving me lots of motivation to stay on track and go ahead with the surgery. I am so very terrified.....but I know it will be good in the end. Was anyone else very worried about the surgery? My date is booked on March 8 so I have not started the pre-op diet yet. Worried about that too. How long do you have to stay in the hospital? And how long till going back to work? I hope to be back at work 4-5days after surgery, but I do make my own hours and I can work from home. Does that sound out of the question?

 well everybody heals at a different rate. I guess it really depends on how your surgery goes and what type of job you are returning to. I am very excited for you, and a wee bit jealous !!!!! anyway, keep us all posted on your journey. When was your referral sent in????
Take care

Hi Sue;

Most days, the idea of surgery didn't bother me, but other days, I was scared stiff! All the way down the hall, as I was being wheeled towards the operating room, I kept thinking what the H#@$ am I doing? When I came out of surgery, all I could think was what the H#@$ did I do? However, the hospital staff handle you with kid gloves. They were so kind. I only had to stay two nights in the hospital, but some people have complications and so have to stay longer.

One of the members of our forum went back to work a week after surgery. I took four weeks off, and I wi**** could have been 5. It really depends on the type of surgery you are having and your own speed of recovery. I had the RNY. I experienced a lot of nausea & dehydration during the first month, and couldn't imagine trying to function at work like that. However, after the second week, I probably could have managed doing some work from home for two hours or so at a time.

The pre-op diet is nothing to really worry about, it is just a necessary evil. It isn't fun, but if you are determined, you will get through it. Do expect headaches for the first few days. Do expect your moods to be a challenge. But it is only for two weeks.

I know this all sounds gruesome, but in the end, I really find that it was all worth it. I am down over 60lbs, and I NEVER could have done this on my own. Also, this forum is a wondeful place to find support.

Good luck & don't be afraid to ask questions!

Tanya
