Getting an Avtar to work. HELP!

I have tried to put a picture and a graphic as an avatar.. and it says the file is too large. What do I do?

You could try this I found it on another forum.

You can 'shrink' pics for use as your avatar by using this site to shrink it & then save it & upload it to the oh site  :)

I was trying to shrink a picture on my own and I ended up with a really grainy photo.
