Pureed Foods

What is everyone planning to eat or what did you eat during the pureed phase? I should be on purees but just not too sure what to eat. I keep reading posts but a lot of them are geared towards foods you can't get in Canada, or maybe you can and I just don't know.
Anyways... I am really having a hard time with this and would love to know what everyone is doing.
Thanks,
Mich

I ate mashed potatoes - I bought the cheese and herb/garlic flavoured packaged ones to ensure a really smooth consistancy. I mixed unflavoured protein powder with the milk and then added it to my spoonful of  potatoes.  It didn't take much to fill me up at this stage. Great way to get in the protein. I used the pureed no sugar added fruit cups - strawberry/kiwi/apple sauce were my favourites. I bought the Knorr and V8 creamed soups - asparagus, broccoli, leak & potato, These soups are so thick that even before  surgery I added water to them, so to this day for lunch I heat them up extra warm and add my protein powder (mixed with cold water) to the soup. With the soup's thickness I don't notice the protein. I do this also with my own homemade soups,
And last - but not least - I mixed in my vanilla ice cream flavoured powdered protein into no sugar added/fat free smooth yogurt (I used Astro during this time as it was the smoothest).
During the pureed stage I wasn't too concerned about the sodium content of pre-packaged foods as I was eating so little and some sodium is necessary so I didn't figure that I would go over normal allowable amounts.

You're right though - a lot of those foods don't seem to be available here and they cost an arm & a leg to import. I bought Bariatric Advantage chewable vitamins (3 month suppply of multi, iron, B12,  and calcium and it cost me almost $300.00 0f which $80.00 was taxes and shipping fees. Lol, I am now getting my passport so that I can go shopping in Grand Forks!

Good luck and enjoy!

I have been eating (if that is what you want to call it) yogurt, cottage cheese, just did carrots, I put stew in a blender and ate that but that is all that I have tried. Would these be considered purees? Was anyone else scared to go to the puree phase? God only knows how I will adapt to the next phase.

I think you can puree just about anything.  How about spagetti, lasagna?
How much can you eat Michelle?
Where did you all buy the Bariatric chewable vits?

I just bought regular vitamins and crush before taking them.

Ohh yeah moving on to the next phase is always a bit weird..you'll be ok. Just go slow. My favorite pureed food was canned meats, with some mayo in the blender. One can was good for 2 days, including sharing with the baby..LOL I also did sugar free pudding with added protein powder. Soups with greek yogurt for a protein boost too. The first 3 weeks were weird for me, no appetite, but knew I had to eat something. That "something" was the complicated part..thankfully it's over as fast as it starts! Now I look back and I can't believe how far I have come. You'll feel the same too :)

Hi Michelle;

I just trusted my body & appetite to tell me what I could have.
I ate yogurt, clear or creamed soups, canned meat & canned fish. I also at saltine crackers; I would just let them disolve in my mouth before I swallowed them. I also had Gatorade (watered down by half) or watered down apple juice to help me get down some extra fluids & electrolites. I had scrambled eggs once in a while. Mashed potatoes were wonderful! I had small amounts of pasta once in a while, but I had to chew them like crazy before I swallowed. For me it was a day-to-day process of learning what my body was able to tolerate. I really found that the only foods that seemed appetizing were the ones that I could tolerate.

Just be careful to take really small bites and chew well.

Oh, I found that the easiest carbs to digest were products made with rice flour - like Rice Krispies. Little rice "chips" are still my favourtie snack now. Rice noodles are also very easy to digest. Rice cakes give you the satisfaction of chewing something big & real, but if you chew them well, they dissolve to nothing before you swallow them, and then your gut has an easy time digesting them.

Good luck!

Tanya
