Plastics Information??

I am hoping by Spring I am ready to start getting ready for some serious plastics help.  I am looking to do a medical tummy lift and a cosmetic arm lift.
Has anyone heard if the tummy tuck is now available in MB?  I know in the past those of us who had to out of province for the RNY had to also do the same for the tummy tuck.
With the bariatric program now in MB, this has to be a consideration for us in the province.
I'd love to stay close to home and have both procedures done at the same time.  I know the arm lift will be out of pocket, but MB health has covered the 'medical' tummy tuck in the past.

If anyone can recommend a good surgeon in MB as well, that would also be very helpful.  I have no clue where to start with this whole process and I'm tired of wearing those very unsexy 'hold everything in' undergarments!!

Thanks,

Joanne

Pinky711. Or Shelly has had some plastics done here. She was talking about a excellent surgeon at HSC, can't remember his name. She posted her email and phone #, it's under the last meet n greet posting.

Hi Joanne;

When I met with Dr. Vergis for my surgery, I asked about follow-up plastic surgery. He said that Manitoba does not cover the costs of a post-bariatric surgery tummy-tuck. However, Dr. Vergis knows a surgeon who will give bariatric patients a discount for the surgery. So maybe call Julie at the clinic, she may have the number for the plastic surgeon. (I don't remember his name.)

It is so frustrating, because I know that Ontario will cover a tummy tuck after major weight loss.

A friend of mine had hers covered under MB Health but she had to go to Alberta to do the tummy tuck.  This was about a year ago or so and she really had to fight for it though.

That is very frustrating.  It's not only for cosmetic reasons!  In winter, it hasn't been too bad, but in summer it was very uncomfortable.  I've since lost weight since summer, and I know this summer is going to be even worse.

My sister had hers covered in SK.  The stipulation for her was she had to prove that she lost 100 lbs or more which wasn't a problem since her doctor had recorded her weight with her appointments.

The arm lift is totally for cosmetic reasons, lol.  I could kill someone or myself with these batwings I got going on!

One of the plastic surgeons at St B is Dr. Dolynchuk. He did my wrist surgery and was very good. His bed side manner is a little egotistical but you can't see my scars and I got lots of rehab and follow up.

I always thought is it was for medical reasons like the excess skin is causing sores/irritation that it would be covered. A pity is they won't cover it - because those feelings of being so uncomfortable etc can move into depression etc and that's not healthy.

I would want a chin tuck cuz I already have my Mom and Grandma's neck which is saggy. Now when I look in the mirror I see my Mom....scary.

Thanks I will look him up!

I lucked out for the most part.  I don't have tons of loose skin everywhere.  I think because I started working out almost right away and really worked on muscle tone I don't look like a deflated balloon.  My thighs are kinda bad, but nothing that grosses me out too bad.  And my arms are just HUGE.  I have good muscle tone underneath, but you can't see the shape!  I want to sleeve my right arm, and tattoos and flappy arms are not hot, lol.
But my belly is just one big piece of flap.  The overhang is not comfortable, it's itchy and sweaty in the summer.

I went to see a plastic surgeon and was told that MB doesn't cover any of lifts.  In my consult it was suggested that I have a total body lift $8,000 and my arms $4,000 and my legs $4,000.  That is a lot of cash.

I did hear the AB covers the tuck, and on my Red Deer group, it was mentioned that AB is lobbying to have the arms and legs covered too.  Why is MB so far behind????

I am going to see my surgeon in AB for my 2 year post op follow up and am going to ask him for a referral in AB.  It sucks that MB is so behind the times.

 Wow, that's crazy!

Let me know how your appointment goes and what they say.
If the price is going to be so ridiculous in MB, I just might look into Mexico.  A friend of mine did a total body lift in Mexico and she was treated very well.

This whole process is going to be overwhelming I'm sure...good thing we have such an awesome support system!

Do you know what it costs to get it done in Mexico?
