New to the group.....

Hello everyone.....

I have been reading the form for the last month or so.  I have been considering WLS for 2 years.  I had my doctor send a letter of referral in July to the St. B gastric clinic and Julie. I bugged Julie in the beginning,.....hoping to move things alone faster!  Ya right!  She told me in September that I would expect to get a letter in December and possible surgery in the spring.

So I waited........Decemeber came.....still nothing.  I waited till mid Decemeber and I phone Julie.  She then informed me that I wouldn't get a letter now till summer time!   WTF!  How come such a big change in time period.  I would rather they would have been up front with me. The emotional roller coaster!  She told me that the doctors are not doing as many surgeries and they still have ther own clinics.  She wasn't very helpful.

I was devistated!  Now ..what I am going to do?  Every diet that I try, it ends with tears of dissapointment and failure.  I am tired of being fat!

After reading your forum, I started investigating surgery types and the possibiliy of going to Mexico for sugery. After my research I am considering "plication" and going to the Obersity Control Center in Tjuanna.  I wanted to go in the next month.

I was hoping for any comments or feedback from this forum.

Welcome to the group. I am a July referral also, Julie told me I would get a call in January and now she says the spring. Your right the waiting is hard, but this support group really helps. I take in everything that is talked about and feel that will help me be more than ready when my turn comes. Right now I am making small changes that I know I have to do after the surgery, like protein first, and not drinking with meals. I also thought of going to Mexico , but only for a second, because I can't afford it lol. The meet n greets are great, I hope to meet you at the next one.
Hang in there, we could be in the hospital together.

Hi Pam!

You have every right to be frustrated. I thought the plan was for them to be doing more surgeries, not less! At least you have submitted your application. I bet that as more Manitobans hear about this program, the line-ups will only increase.

Try not to give up hope. There are people on this forum who have gone to Mexico for their procedures. (That was never a financial option for me.) They have good things to say about the care they received.

Hi Pam, I just had my surgery in Medicine Hat after waiting for over 4 years. Honestly it was well worth the wait; only having to do it away from my family was very hard not to mention the travel home. I would have given anything to wait only 6 months for my surgery. Honestly the time will fly once you get the date and before you know it will be here.

Well this sure isn't very good news.  My referral was sent in to Doctor Andrew on Dec. 21/10 and I was hoping to have the surgery sometime this year.  Looks like I may be looking at 2012 now.  Dang!

I had my surgery done in Tijuana Mexico, Sept.2. I had a great expereince. I was actually speaking to the rep for the clinic and she said that if there was a group from Manitoba, that she could give us a deal. Just a thought.

 i would also be interested in some mexican surgery if they could lower the price a bit. i believe its $4500 right now plus whatever for the flights, so im thinking a person would need about $5500-6000 to go. I dont mind the waiting to have it done here in winnipeg, but i dont like the not having a date. if they could tell me March 2012. i would be happy, but it is very difficult when you are told 6 months, then 8-10 months, then at least 10 months. It is certainly not any fault of the clinic, but it doesnt seem right that this all boils down to funding. You feel like in 10 months, you are gonna be told, 6 months. it makes you crazy.

Hello! Sorry to hear we could have a long wait. I know how frustrating waiting can be. So I've decided if I'm going to have to wait for another year, then I'll get some possitive tools and habits in place for when I have it done. I'm going to join my local gym, and seek out a trainer to help me with a good exercise program. This will help with my recovery. I can start changing some of my habits like one other girl mentioned in her comment.  Maybe all of us waiters could be here for one another to encourage healthy changes until our upcoming wls.
