Post Op Diet question
Hi everyone!
I'm 3 months post op (VSG), and I just had a follow up with the NUT. Apparently I need to start getting more CARBS into my post op diet (who thought I would ever have that problem???) I have been counting proteins grams, and calories but I don't count carbs, apparently I dont eat any, LOL.
I think I might be a carbaphobe and the more I talked with the NUT and researchd it, the more I realize that carbs are essential for energy, but just don't know what to eat that is not bread and pasta! Any suggestions for good post op carbs? Help!

Are you eating veggies? Veggies and fruits are good sources of carbs. Legumes and dry beans like kidney beans etc. have carbs. Then there are the whole grains such as oatmeal, wheat bran etc that have good carbs. Whole grain bread if you toast it well might be a good option. I love quinoa a grain that I often use in place of the tiny pasta cousous in salads etc.
If you go to goodcarbs.org there is a very good list of good carbs and ideas how to use them.
Good luck. Lol...carbaphobe I'm not. I cannot wait until my pouch can handle toasted whole grain bread ( I usually make my own) and I cannot tell you how much I miss my salads at lunch!!

Hi Deb,
In the morning for breakfast I eat Superstore Blue Menu Steel Cut Oats. She was pleased with that, they are really good too!
Bread was to empty for me, I needed something to chew for a long time, the steel cut oats made me feel like I was actually eatting more than what was in my bowl. They are available at the Bulk Barn as well. Bread was disheartning, looking at one peice. I still need to trick my brain!
The other thing that I eat alot of is Chili, made with chickpeas and lots of beans. You could make it or try a small Wendy's chili. The small makes 2 meals for me, or I can eat in 2 sittings!
Are you coming on Monday night to the meet and greet?
Michelle
