First of all, WELCOME to our group.  I want to say your GP sounds very judgemental, I would get another.  The fact that you have chronic disease like Fibromyalgia and throid disease is a reason the get the surgery.  WE ALL HAVE DIFFICULTY WITH OUR EATING HABITS AND LACK OF EXERCISE (TO SOME DEGREE)!!!! Dah.........

Yes, all the surgeons work out of the same clinic:

They take turns doing the interviews. So the surgeon who interviews you is not necessarily one of the the people who will be doing the procedure. The surgery is done jointly by 2 bariatric surgeons at the Victoria Hospital. 

Give the clinic a call if you have any questions. Julie, the nurse, is very nice.

I have an appointment with my GP in 8 days with the intention of asking him for a referral.  Can anyone from Manitoba tell me . . .
1.  What are the criteria to qualify for the surgery?
2.  How long it takes from time of referral to actually getting the surgery?

Hi and thanks for the warm welcome from everyone! I had my appointment today and Dr. Vergis will be my doctor. He was very friendly and quite easy to talk to. He talked about the different types of surgeries and pros/cons. He wants me on an exercise program for 3 months, to s but ee a nutritionist He and physchologist. He said 90% of their patients see one. He also said he would not deny me surgery if I didn't see one due to the expense. I have to save some money for all these extras; first I need to find it to save it. I have an appointment with the nurtionist in February, another appt with Dr. Vergis in April. They also will do a scope before surgery. He's talking about June for surgery. Also since I work in a school and am off for all of July and August he said we should be able to pu**** for when I am on holidays! woo hoo!!! looks like I'm in!  The most difficult one to do will be the exercise because I'm always so tired but I'll find a way......


When was your referral sent in? My referral was sent in March, 2010. It feels like it went by fast because I thought for sure there was a longer waiting period.
