What should I bring?

When I go into the hospital what should I bring?  Besides the protein what should I have at home? I am starting to freak out about it and still have 2-1/2 weeks to go.  I  think that I am going to have too much and other times I am not sure if I will have enough stuff at home after surgery.
Thanks

Well everyone is a bit different, but I had plenty of broth/beef consume the first week.  If you like get the diet icetea. Nestea had them in cans they care called Nestea Zero? (I think)
I also had a great ho****er bottle. It was my best friend for the first week.
I bought PLENTY of gas-x strips but they didn't really work for me but others swore by them.
You must be SOOOO excited!!

When you go into the hospital someone told me to pack everything you could possibly need and then leave half of it at home LOL.  The stuff I took was more than enough Bathrobe ,slippers, toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, Pj bottoms or undies of course, brush and/or comb ,Lotion and chap stick and I had my i-pod for music to listen to. Hopefully that helped and as for home I thought I was prepared but I wasn't

For at home, have a pill crusher. I used mine lots the first 2 weeks. I had sugar free pudding, low fat yogurt and broths. I'm not a tea drinker, but some like to have that on hand. I HATED everything being so darn sweet, so I added Resource Beneprotein to the broth when it was cooled to a drinkable temperature. Don't heat it up..or it gets chunky..EW!

I am just now able to tolerate protein shakes..they were all too sweet and made me sick.

For the hospital, all I brought were undies, lip balm, my cell phone, an easy reading book, Nikki brought me magazines( which was awesome, cuz morphine makes you have a reaaaaally short attention span!) Comfy clothes to go home in and the regular toiletries( toothpaste, deodorant, floss) For me everything else was a moot point. Didn't use anything else. I played a couple of games on my phone once I wasn't so stoned on the morphine..but I was quite happy in the hospital. I concentrated on sleeping!

I'm super excited for you Michelle!! Your turn came up fast huh?....

Hi Michelle;

I needed:
Bathrobe, slippers
Didn't bother with a nightgown, as I used theirs.
Tooth brush, toothpaste
deodorant
Lip balm, hand cream
Brush
Comfy clothing to go home in, i.e. loose sweatpants that wouldn't interfere with my sutures.
I brought shower supplies, but really didn't need them because the hospital has soap, and I waited until I was home a few days before I had a full shower. I found that I was only up to sponge baths for the first few days anyway.
I brought an extra pillow and blanket but didn't need them, as the one the hospital supplied really were sufficient.
Brought music, books, and mags, but didn't use any of them.
Once I got a room of my own, I did order tv service ($11/day, payable only by credit card, which was good for white noise in the background.) If I didn't have tv, an MP3 player or radio would have helped.
***Remember to leave all your jewellery, including your wedding band at home.
***If you wear glasses, remember to bring a case for them as you need to leave them with the nurse before you go into the er.

At home:
Apple juice, which I watered down by half
A pill crusher
Lots of broth (loved the convenience of cup-a-soup)
Yogurt
Saltines which I let disolve on my tongue before I swallowed - they helped settle my stomach.
Breathsavers to get rid of odd tastes in my mouth.
Time-released Gravol - this was and still is a life-saver for me.

The pre-op diet is not fun, but you will get through it. Think of it as prep for your post-op diet. The first few days are the hardest and after that you resign yourself to it.

I am excited for you. Good Luck!

Tanya
