referral

I'm sure this topic has been covered several times in this forum but I didn't have the patience to go searching past entries to find out.

I went to the doctor today and without any apprehension he gave me a referral.  Now I have this slight fear that the specialist won't think I'm a worthy candidate.  I'm not quite as heavy as I thought I was...but still plenty heavy.  My BMI is 39.8.  I figured it was 41 or 42.  Were any of you concerned that you might be turned down for surgery?   

 i was very concerned i would be turned down as my bmi was 35.0 at the time of referral. i also have hypertension. i got a letter stating that i do meet the criteria. the criteria is bmi between 37-47 or 35-47 with comorbidities. the waiting is absolute torture........

 ohh..yesss...the fear of not being accepted was a huge factor for me.

My BMI is 37.1...I just received the letter today I met the criteria!


Your BMI meets what is needed..I am betting you will be approved.

Justlori, we must be at about the same place in this journey. My Dr gladly made the referral for me in early December and now we wait. i am worried that my BMI is way too high it is about 54. I hope that things work out for you.

Thank you Karenanne and manyquestions for easing my mind.  Now it would be nice if a few naysayers would stop trying to influence me with stories of the downsides to WLS.   KarenE, stay strong and be positive a good things will happen.
