 Hi, I'm new to this forum. I had the RnY done on Tues. Nov. 16th.
I'm a mid 40, happily married, mom to 18 & 20 yr old boys.
I didn't find the pre-op diet too bad. I didn't mind the shakes. I preferred the vanilla over the chocolate. I could NOT tolerate the bars. I managed to get a total of 2 down. On the 3rd day there was no way that my throat was going to let it down. I decided to skip that step and gave my hubby those bars (he tends to skip lunch).I used my son's protein powder to get in the extra protein.

Since out of the hospital and the effects of the CO2 gas that they pump into your abdomen to do the surgery went away I'm doing great. It's day 11 and I'm well on mushy foods. I refuse to puree my meat, so am not yet eating those. I've been trying to drink the Premier protein shakes, but they are way too chocolatey for me, so I'm going to just use my protein whey powder on my yogurt/pudding and hot cereal as well as in fruit smoothies.

I've been reading a lot of your past posts and wish all of you still waiting for your surgeries good luck and continued success to those who've already had it.

Welcome Mags!! Hope we get to meet you at one fo the meet n greets! The last one was a hit. I got for my surgery on Monday, I'm super excited to get this part over with and start the re-learning how to eat :)

I also didn't find the pre-op diet to bad either. The first few days I was cranky at dinner time..lol After that I learned to just eave the room while hubby and the kids ate.

Congrats on your surgery!

Hi Mags!

So you've gone thru the waiting, testing, preop..and op and there you are..well on your way!!

Great to hear you are doing...great!

I'm still at the stage to see if I am accepted for the surgery or not, but it's great to hear of everyone's experiences! I have to say too, the people on here seem fantastic!

Welcome!  You must be very excited.  Good for you.  I am to have my VSG on Jan 24/11.  I am a bit concerned about the pre-op diet.  I think I am going to give the chocolate a miss though, judging by everyones dislike of the flavour.  Keep us posted on your progress.

Hi Mags;
Welcome!

I am having the RNY as well.
Do you remember how long the surgery took?
I am told to report to the Vic a week Monday at 6:15am. I am trying to find out when I will be out of recovery so that my family can come and visit.

It sounds like you are progressing well if you are on soft foods already. Way to go!

 Hi Tanya,

My surgery started late. Lol, I was first scheduled for 8:00 am, then it was switched to 12:30pm (which was great because then I could drop of my computer at the "doctor's" for it's check up and cleaning!). 2 days before the surgery it was rescheduled 11:00 am. I finally got taken into the OR at about 12:30 pm. I slept well, and couldn't see the clock well from where my bed was, but I do remember being awake in my room at 4:00 pm. Sorry that I can't give you more info than that.

Good luck with your surgery!

Marg

Thanks Marg;

That does help. If I get my surgery at 8am, then I should be in a room no later than 1pm.

Welcome mags,
I had my rny done 4 weeks ago. I had some complications so am a bit behind where i should be but starting to finally feel stronger. I so sick of the protein shakes that i'm not having much of them. I have 4 oz in the morning then some multigrain cheerios in milk, snack yogurt, lunch, usually and egg, but getting sick of that, snack of cheese, then dinner either some chicken shredded with some gravy on it to keep it moist with some mushed carrots and a tad of potatoe or grd beef of some sort, then evening snack of yogurt or cereal or a pudding. It's a chore to get it all in since i have no appetite, but that's life for now.
keep in touch

 Hi Sue,

So sorry that you had complications. Glad to hear that you are on the mend. Lol, I can't wait until I can have cheerios. I don't mind the protein powder so much, adding it to my yogurt, but next time I'm going to buy unflavoured powder so that the flavour doesn't wreak  my food.
