Hello, I am new to the site. I was just wondering what the wait time is and how long approx I will be off of work? I was referred in August/2010. I am sooo excited and a little scared at the same time.  Kim.

Hi Kim,
welcome to the BEST support group out there. I am not quite sure about the wait list. I had my surgery done in Mexico, but there are several fantastic people on this site who can help answer some of your questions.
I was off work for a week. Some pople take 7-10 days off of work.
Good Luck with your journey.

Welcome Kim
We will be around the same time.
My referral went in July, Julie said I should get a call in Jan. I think surgery is 6 to 8 weeks after that. It will come so fast.

I've been taking a multivitamin for years, and started taking Biotin and Silica recently (for hair)

Hi Shan,
I was wondering if you can tell me where you get the biotin and silica from. I have'nt got my surgery date yet but I see the nutritionist on tuesday. I have very thin hair and would like to start taking something for it right away. I'd appreciate any info you could give .

Hi Everyone;

My surgery is on 6th December, like Allisson. I guess that we are both starting Meditrim today.
I am having such problems getting it down. I have been nursing it for an hour and I still have 2/3 of a cup to go. I don't know how I am going to manage doing this everyday! I am trying the Vanilla right now, and it smells like Play-Do! Oh dear. The things we do for our health. I just can't wait for my actual surgery. I keep telling myself that I am doing this for a very good cause!

Hang in there everyone!

Hey Kim!!

Welcome!! This is a great place and a wealth of knowledge is all over the whole site! I have been reading here since January :) My referral went in in March and I finally got a call in Oct. My surgery is Nov 29th. It gets slower in the summer because of OR time. Nurses and Doctors need holidays too :)  They have been going faster lately which is AWESOME! I wasn't expecting my surgery until Jan-Feb. Hopefully they will get through the list much faster now.

Not sure about the time off work thing, but once I am home I will for sure keep you posted on how i am feeling. I am a stay home mom thouugh..lol There are a few other ladies who have had their surgeries recently who can chime in with their experiences.

My feelings have been going from WAY excited to..what the heck am I doing?..back to really excited and all at the same time I know in my heart this is the right thing for me. My husband is so proud of me and the few people I have told are too. Anyone who says WLS is the easy way out is on crack...really. PERIOD. It would be way easier to stay fat and let the diseases pile up...

Good luck on this journey! It is awesome and I recommend not only taking the dreaded pictures, but to write about how you feel/deal..etc. It's wild to go back and read what you have written.

You gals are lucky to have something done in Winnipeg.  I am not eligible at this time because I am...male!  I am off to Vegas!

We are lucky to get the surgery done here, I won't have my surgery till the new year, and I can't wait! I'm glad you can get it done and not waiting to be eligible here.
Do you have to do the pre op diet?

Unfortunately, the pre-op diet is compulsory. You have to have a high-protein, low-fat, low-carb diet in order to shrink your liver. Your liver needs to be out of the way in order for the surgeon to do the procedure laparoscopically. If the liver hasn't shrunk then the surgeon will not proceed.

Today, I found that the chocolate shake was much easier to get down. I got up early and mixed in a blender with some ice. It made it much easier to manage.

I am going to see if the nutritionist will give me a prescription for another box of chocolate shakes. I really don't think I will be able to stomach the vanilla. It is just too fragrant.
