New to this!
Hello everyone! I am truly inspired by all your stories. I am about to embark on my journey. I am scheduled to have VSG Jan 24th 2011 at the Vic. I am so scared. I am so very concerned about the side effect of nausea post op, not to mention leaking at the staple line. I think I can endure the Medifast diet and the restrictions post op. Please if anyone can give me some information about your surgeries I would be ever so grateful.
HI there,
You must be sooo excited!! I had my surgery two and a half months ago and feel great! I didn'y have my surgery here so I am not too sure about the ins and outs of the process here. There are a few ladies who have had their surgery here and are amazing to talk to.
The side effects are very minimal. The only side effects I have are when I eat too much too fast. This is a great tool to help you with portion control and getting healthy.
Welcome!!
Nikki

Thank you so much for the support. Nikki, where did you have your surgery? Did you have the VSG? How much have you lost? What symptoms did you experience if you ate too fast? I love to cook and I love flavor. I don't want to loose the pleasure from that even though the portions will be considerable smaller. Thank you again for your encouraging words.

hellooo there!
I have no info about the surgery.(I have not had ..I am hopeing to have..)..But I wanted to say "hi", and welcome to you!
From what I read and heard, everything will be just fine! On a small chance there is leaking, the surgeons can fix that.
all the best to you!

I have not seen a surgeon yet...I am still waiting for my Dr. to make the referal. (and the waiting is making me a tad crazy )
So, I have a long way togo before even finding out if I am approved.
So, until then..I'm here to gain knowledge, provide support, make new friends..and just be another pretty face!

Hi Sherry,
I had my surgery in Tijuana Mexico. I didn't realize they were doing the surgery here until I got back. I had very little to no complications. There are some gas pains to deal with but not everyone gets them.
I think that you stay in the hospital here for a few days. You will be well looked after.
I also LOVED to cook and LOVE flavor. I still eat what I used to but with better choices and much smaller portions. I used to LOVE very spicy food but now I can't have it as spicy as I used to. I can still have spice but not as hot as before.
I still try to cook very interesting dishes but they are more protein loaded. I used to cook more pasta and carb stuff before.
We eat a lot of seafood and plenty of salmon. If you don't like fish there are thousands of things to do with chicken. I ground mine up to make mearballs or to add to soups. There is a great web site called "eggface" There are sooo many tasty receipies on there, Take a look.
Take care,
Nikki

Hi Everyone;
A special thanks to those of you who are sharing your surgery experiences. Mine is coming up in a few weeks and I am starting to get nervous.
I start my MediTrim diet on Monday. I have been cutting back a little this week in preparations, but I am sure that it will be a bizarre experience. I am worried about making it through the work day on so little fuel. I am also concerned about mood swings. Should I warn my coworkers that I may be a litle touchy over the next two weeks? LOL

Hi there!!
I'm 4 days into my pre-op diet. I'm surviving and doing alright! I'm ok energy wise, but I am a tad bit snippy when my family eats something that smells exceptionally yummy! I vacuumed 1200sq feet and washed 600 today..will do the rest tomorrow. Projects is what gets me through my day since I am a stay home mom.
My surgery is Nov 29th. I wi**** was next week. I am just soooo ready and excited to get it over with and start working towards my new goals with nutrition and fitness. We are meant to stay in the hospital 3-5 days. The staff give really good care and the surgeons are a friendly bunch! I worry about the same things you do, but I also believe that this surgery is a gift for me/us. I trust that all will go well. I am following instructions as well as I can and still run my household.
I am keeping my frame of mind positive, since that aids in the healing process! My 2 older kids know I am going to be in the hospital, and the coolest part to them is that they will get to come see me there..LOL I think the baby will be a little lost without me, but she loves her daddy and will get to visit me too, and sleep in my bed while I am gone..LOL
I am already down a few pounds since the weekend on this liquid diet..LOL I thought I was going to get my surgery about the time you are getting yours. I wanted to be over the holidays..LOL But oh well! This is the right time for me pureed turkey here I come!
WE ARE GOING TO ROCK OUR SLEEVES!!!

Well hello to you and welcome!!
You must be getting very excited and I can totally understand being scared.....I was a complete nut bar!!! LOL!
I had my sleeve on Nov 2 and since I started my preop on Oct 18, I have lost 36 lbs and am doing pretty good. The surgery inself is not too bad, I felt really good after it, expreienced no nausea but did have the gas pains. The were pretty bad but nothing that you couldn't handle or manage and they didn't last long. Although I still get them once in awhile they were much better by about a week and a half out and had gradually got better in that time. The staff at the hospital were amazing...I really could have stayed a couple extra days just for that reason but wanted to get home to my 5 year old!!!! The doctors are amazing and they know what their doing and wouldn't operate on you if they didn't think that you were a prime candidate! I do have trouble getting all my protein in, but am doing my best. I am now on the pureed stage and can't wait to move on!!! Each stage has it's bad points, but you just have to remember it's not forever and that each stage will lead to a new one....and soon you will be eating most everything and that is what I am looking forward too!!!!!!!!! Like you can't imagine!!!!!!
You have found some of the best people I seriously ever met on this site. They are compassionate, understanding, funny and always there for you. They have a ton of information and experience and are more than willing to help you in any way. We are lucky in so many ways!!
Just remember you are not going through this alone....we are always here for you!
