I just wanted to put it out there that if you smoke, the doctors will want you to be 2 months smoke free before you can get your surgery.  I had my consult on Oct 22 and could have had my surgery mid Nov but have to wait until Jan to get it done because I smoke.

too bad you didnt know that little tid bit of info prior to your consult. So eventually you will be on the pre op diet AND not smoking??????? wow, I dont smoke but i am a bit worried because when my consult was sent in, i was dieting and weighed 186. i now weigh 195. I am scared that he will ask me to get back down to that weight before i can do anything. Isnt it horrible when your fate is in someone elses hands, and you just have no control? anyway, have a good day, the time will go quick, because youve already come this far

Hi Michelle,
That is too bad. They must have changed it because I know someone in the beginning who had it done and she smokes. Don't worry it will come soon enough, but it is nice to have it done, and the waiting is horrible.Quitting is a hard thing but you are strong and you can do it!!!

I have my preop on Thursday and surgery on Tueday.

I didn't have to quit in order to have my WLS, I actually chose to quit 2 1/2 months before the surgery because what's the point of having the surgery then?
I wanted WLS to achieve a healthy body, not a skinny body, but a healthy one...Why in the heck would I continue to smoke?

Champix was a wonderful aid for me and in July I was smoke-free for 1 year!  Anyone can quit, but you have to WANT to do it and by all means, do it for the right reason!
