I am 2.5 weeks postop
how exciting for you, how are you feeling now. how long were you in hosp. wow 9 months btwn referral and surgery. it must have felt like a lifetime. my md sent my referral in on the 15th of sept. i havent heard anything back yet though. julie says she thinks my bmi is too low at 35. we will see. hypertension for over 10 yrs may convince them. anyway, good luck on your journey, and keep us posted
hi there,
As of last week i am still careful on eating soft foods .The sound of pureed always made me feel ill.So I think each person will do what ever they can do to make it work and what feels good.Soups, yogurt, smoothies, eggs ,cheeze is usually on the menu. However I did try som thankgiving turkey very little and chewed it good and it was great. So for me its a little trial and error with foods. My biggest challenge is to remember to eat because I look at food different and am simply just not hungry. As for the first few days in the hospital I did not experience any vomiting at all and still have never to this day.The care I recieved in the Victoria Hospital was awesome. This is so new to manitoba they want the most success. They were very patient and caring. My advice to you is to stay on top of your pain control the first few days and try to sip often. The after care has been great as well.I started having better days at about 10 days.2 week postop I had a mourning phase for certain foods and had a weight loss stall. This got me down a bit but the help of family pushed me through. This only lasted a few days. This is common.I started at 236.5 and now am 199.Never thought i would ever hit the 100's.I did become obsessed with the scale wieghing myself ever moment .When I went for my post op app we were able to talk about everything .I only wiegh myself once a week now.

Hello,
Thanks the great information. I am scheduled also for a VSG also at the Vic on Oct. 19th with Dr. Andrew. I am currently in week 2 of my pre op diet and still suffer from headaches and muscle fatigue. I have taken to non fat sugar free yogurt and tbsp. of low fat cottage cheese which seems to help, do you have any pre op diet tips??
I am very nervous about my surgery, there seems to be an overwhelming amount of information we need to process for post op care. It was wonderful to read your post about the staff at the Vic being so great, the team approach by the dr.'s with their staff and dietician have been wonderful so far. Any info you can share for pre and post op care specific to the procedure here in Manitoba would be so greatly appreciated! I would also like to know more about the 'mourning' period of certain foods that is a normal part of post op if you care to share? Any tips of protein supplements? Thanks
Congratulations on your success, truly an inspiration!
