Getting closer..but not close enough!
Well spoke with Julie at the bariatric clinic on Monday to see if she could give me a better idea as to my position on the waiting list. She is so nice and extremely understanding! She said that they are now into the February referrals, I am a February 24th referral, so that is good. She said that I should be getting a call in September for my first appointment. Hopefully her guess-timate is right, because I have never been so impatient in my life. I wasn't even this bad when we booked our trip to Disney and was finally gonna see the castle! This can't be good for my blood pressure! LOL!
Oh well nothing I can do but wait...and wait...and wait. Still very happy that I might get a chance to have it done here in Winnipeg.
Have a great day everyone!
Dean
Thanks,

I live outside of Ste. Anne Mb. I also am "going" to lose 100 or so pounds. I was a little heavier but had a hysterectomy in June and I've lost about 10-15 lbs since then. If you get accepted into the program how would you feel about become supports for each other? I can't see why you won't get in. Dr. vergis said that the bypass surgery will almost definitely help my blood pressure. I have an appt to see the dietician at the end of Sept. and I guess I'll find out more from here regarding if they want me to lose more before surgery. I've been off work all summer so that helps in being more active then when I'm working. Keep me posted as I'm super excited at the idea that someone else from here will be going through the same thing as me!!

I would love to become a support for someone and will definitely need support if I am lucky enough to get in! I come to Winnipeg lots because my mom lives there so if you go to the city lots would that be an option? Did Dr. Vergis suggest bypass, because I am leaning toward the sleeve?
Dean
Dr vergis gave me all the info on all the options but did lean more toward the bypass. He said the g. bypass was the most well studied and works the best within 1 yr and at the 5 yr mark. The sleeve was not as well studied especially for long term results. But the decision will be yours once he talks to you and goes over your specific needs. I do have a huge scar from a gall bladder surgery 20 years ago that he said may be a problem once he's in re scar tissue. This may result in him having to do the sleeve once I'm in surgery. The sleeve has a higher risk of leaks as there are alot more staples. From what I've heard...if you get an appt to see the doc then that means you qualify for the surgery. People who don't are getting letters telling them they don't meet the criteria. What is making you lean toward the sleeve??
I am always going into wpg, I commute everyday for work.

I guess the thought of changing the whole makeup of your body with the bypass has some concerns with me. Plus a friend of mine is having the surgery in Winnipeg the beginning of September has had the meeting and in the consultation she was told that if you find that you are not getting the results with the sleeve that you want or need you can always have the bypass later. But with the bypass that is the last choice. The thought of leaks scares me, as does the whole process! That is good to know about the qualifications, I am definitley on the list. I guess the next time I phone Julie I could ask her if I qualify does that mean I am a sure thing for surgery. Plus did you get a letter of a phone call for your first appointmen? I am so paranoid about not getting the letter or call? Then Winnipeg would definitley be the place to meet.
A friend of mine had bypass in Edmonton in June and is doing good, I think she had a small infection in the beginning but since that has cleared up she is doing good. I believe she has 50-60lbs since the start of her 3 week fast. The biggest problem that she has eating is carbs, rice, bread, but she said that one day she can eat it, then next it makes her very sick.
