Surgery in Winnipeg

Hi,
Well this is my first time posting a question on this blog. I have been reading it for awhile and have acquired a ton of information, Thanks everybody!

Now for the question portion! I have my name on the list for WLS in Winnipeg and have not heard anything yet. I phoned the office a couple of months ago to see if the had received my referral and was told that in fact I am on the list and should be receiving a call in about 4 months. My question is, has anyone actually had the meeting with the doctor, or has anyone had the surgery yet or even a date for surgery? If so what is the process and waiting times? I have asked my doctor to refer me to a couple other provinces in case Manitobas doesn't actually pan out. I am not even sure if Manitoba is still covering the cost in other provinces anymore. Are the wait times still long in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia? Any information or updates would be appreciated!

I'm living in Alberta and I go to the Weight Wise Clinic in Edmonton. I was on the waiting list for 1 year before i got into the clinic and had been going for 10 months before I got my approval for surgery. Now the real waiting game begins, hoping the phone will soon ring with a surgery date.

I'd say it doesn't really hurt to be on the waiting list, if it pans out in Manitoba then you can just remove yourself from the list.

I just hope I hear from Winnipeg soon! I really want to start the process and hopefully see my future as a healthy one!

Is the surgery to take place in Winnipeg?  Do you know where, I have an appointment with my doctor and I want to give him as much info as I possible can.

Here is some information that I got from my doctor, I believe there was a letter sent out to all doctors. It is based out of the St. Boniface Surgical Associates, 200-400 Tache Ave. Wpg, MB Fax 204-237-8141, doctors Andrew and Bracken.

I hope the surgery will take place in Winnipeg, I haven't heard anything yet and was hoping that someone on this site would have more information as to if anything is happening.

Hopefully this helps. I will keep you posted if I hear anything.

I'm also on the waiting list for the Weight Wise clinic in Edmonton, plus my Dr. has sent a referral to Dr. Andrews, who by the way is a very good surgeon.

I was referred to the clinic the first week of Feb 2010 and on Sept 7th I received the call to meet with Dr. Chris Andrew. Meet with Dr. Andrew today Sept 16th and I am a candidate for the sleeve! I booked the appt with the "Diet Lady" that takes place in late October!
