So seriously you must be a Female!!?! This program is only for the females!!

Patients must meet the following criteria:
1. Female
2.  Age <55
3.  BMI <47
4. Miminal comorbidities

What about the Males of this province are we just supposed to go elsewhere still?

That is crazy criteria....I agree !!!  I could see an older person (hey I am older) and someone with a lot of health problems but male/female????   I would call up the surgeon and try to get an appt.

check out the previous post, they are having surgery here in Wpg on June 29th... prior to this program we had to travel to another province... really I am glad to see the start of any program....

No, sorry I do not know if they changed the criteria.  Maybe you should post the question on the site,
there are a lot of people going for the surgery right now and should be more up to date.
Sorry

how long has it been taking from doctor refferral to actual surgery for any one? in manitoba or outside of manitoba. where is a doctor suppose to reffer you to?? dont know if my doctor would know or if i would have to direct him in the right direction. was wondering who has had the vsg and if they felt it was good. i am un sure which won vsg ot rny would be better. how do you figure out your bmi? i am 32 approx 330 pounds and about 5'7" tall. are either of them done laperscoptic (don't know if i spelt that right). i work standing on my feet all day as a hairdresser i dont want to be out of work too long but i am certainly willing to staff off however long i need to.

Hello,
I am not sure of the actual referral process right now.  You should ask the question on the forum again, sorry.  I had mine done in Alberta.  I had to bring the information to my family dr and explain that I needed a referral to the surgeon, she agreed with everything I asked.

If you look at the forum, there is a meet & greet, an informal meeting set up by the members of this group.  Scheduled for Saturday ... look at the details of that post  You might want to attend and ask the folks there some of your questions.  I remember going to one when I first thought of surgery and it was very helpful to talk to people face to face and ask the questions.

Hello,

I support the males who posted above.  I think you should re-post your position/issue with the criteria on the main forum and ask for the members to support you by emailing the Minister of Health and demanding that the program review its criteria and include males in the program.  Maybe you could show up at the meet & greet and we could start a petition and forward that petition to the hospital and MInister of Health.  I would be prepared to assist with that.  There is also the media.  I know some of the members were a little anxious to "rock the boat" as maybe they might not be accepted for surgery if they were too vocal or critical but the ones who had the surgery (myself included) can speak up and together on the issue.

I had to leave the province for my surgery as it did not exist at the time.... I am so thankful to see so many Manitobans go for the surgery and we need to open it up to be fair.

(Sorry to repeat myself as I replied to the posting above as well)
