new bariatric program in Manitoba
on 2/8/10 1:39 pm - Winnipeg, Canada
Ok so BMI<47 is that the maximum because I'm up in the 60's?? My family doctor told me about this last week. I'm at a cross roads now as I'm on a waiting list in Edmonton and there may be a chance that I may be moving out to Ontario and if I do move I'll have it done in Ontario. My next appointment in Edmonton Weight Wise program isn't till October.
I have not heard if anyone has been accepted or denied into the program here in Manitoba. It is certainly worth pushing your dr for the referral. I would follow up after the referral is in... just to make sure they do not need any additional info or anything to hold up the referral. All the best. This forum is very quiet but if someone gets in.... they should let us all know... we are interested and we will do our best to provide support, answer questions, etc.

hi everyone
I am seeing dr Andrew soon, am having an mri on march 10th of my abdomen and than off to surgery for my gallbladder out and possible hernia. Dr. Andrew is doing the surgery. I will get the low down as to what is going on as far as referrals and has he started seeing patients yet, and if not, when???? I will tell him we are waiting anxiously and cant wait for him to start.

Hi there
I had my gall bladder out, no more attacks but still cant tolerate alot of food including most meats. Dr andrews program is starting up in july as that is when the two surgeons from toronto are coming here to start and work with him doing the vertical sleeve gastrectomy. He has a very specific criteria whi*****ludes you must be a women under 50 years of age, BMI under 47, no comorbidities. I guess he wants the start of his program to be as successful as possible and therefore the strict guidelines. He said he will eventually broaden his criteria to include BMI over 47 etc. Hope this helps. Good luck and take care.
