By the time everything sifts through the politics of our country you might as well go to Mexico and get it done. I had mine done on the 23rd of Feb. and am so glad I did. The service and the care were amazing!

I am in that program (second on the list), and I will have the VSG this month June 29th.  I met the criteria. My doctor had referred me(received the letter) and I didn't know about that until my first Appointment with Dr Andrew in April

All I have to pay for is the nutritionist and the Meditrim for the pre-op liquid diet. (which I am currently on day 3 of it)

I am very excited and feel like I won the lottery without even trying,  I have been up and down in my weight for over 20 years and mo matter what I had tried previously I was and still am overweight.

I initially contacted Dr Andrew over 7 years ago as he was the only Dr here doing bariatric surgery (Lap Band) but was told no program was available at that time in Manitoba although they were going to keep trying.  I could put my name on a waiting list and see what happens at that time.

Hi,
that is great that weight loss surgery is happening here in Wpg.... all the best... June 29th is just around the corner.  It has been over 2 yrs for me (different surgery) and I have no regrets.  Much better to have the surgery than having to travelling to Alberta like a lot of us had to do.

Let us know how you're doing after the surgery.

Hello,
Well I am very excited to hear someone is having the surgery in Winnipeg!!!! Hooray!!!

I too am on the list, not sure what number I am but hopefully I will get a call soon. If you don't mind could I ask you a couple of questions, how long were you on the list, when did your doctor send in the referral? What type of surgery are the performing here or do you get an option? How many meetings did you have to go to first and how long from when they contacted you till your first appointmen? How long are you on the Medifast for? I am so excited for you and everyone in Manitoba that I want to know it all!!!! Do you know how many surgeries they are doing or have done and how quickly? I have phoned a couple of times and want to phone every week but also don't want them to take out a restraining order! LOL!

I can completely relate to the lifelong struggle with weight, and you must be overjoyed!!

Please keep in touch and let me know how everything went!

Hello there,
Just wondering, are you going to see Dr. Vergis in Winnipeg? Sorry I know Dr. Andrews does the surgery in Winnipeg, I just have not heard about Dr. Vergis. If it is in Winnipeg, when did you get your name in for a referral? And is this your first appointment?

I have my name on the list, i was a February referral, i know someone who was a end of January referral and is scheduled for VSG in early September.

Thanks!

HI, just had my appt with dr. vergis....super nice guy. He spend almost an hour with me and didn't rush me at all. Anyway....I qualify for surgery. They are doing 3 types but only 2 are covered...gastric bypass and gastric sleeve, lap band is not covered. I'm going for the gastric bypass as it seems to have the most success. The only thing I have to pay for is $200 for the dietician which covers seeing her for a year and the psychologist which is $125. It's a little scary though as it will really restrict what and how i eat.. 2 weeks before the surgery I have to do an intensive liquid diet called Metatrim in order to drop some quick pounds before surgery which apparently helps the liver. Otherwise they won't do the surgery. Then after it's 8-12 weeks of liquid diet, then pureed food. After that he said I can eat normal foods but in small quatities and more meals a day.  The dietician helps you with all this.
Dr. Vergis is the only one doing the gastic bypass in Wpg right now, Dr. Andrews and Bracken are only doing gastric sleeve for now as they are not trained yet. Dr vergis was doing them in toronto and did a year of teaching it in To. aNYWAY  sounds like my surgery will be in Oct. I'm excited but scared and nervous too. Would love to hear from people who have been through the gastric bypass and wht life is like for you now.
