It is going really well. I'm back at work today and so far so good. I made sure I took good protein snacks with me and lots of water.
So far I'm down 44 lbs. and thanks to Tina, I will have some clothes to wear for the next while, lol. I am just waiting for the day when none of my reserve clothing fits anymore and I can finally go shopping for fresh stuff!!
There really needs to be a support meeting in South Winnipeg sometime. I'd love to meet people on here and help those that are just starting as well.

I had RNY in Red Deer, AB. My Dr was Lawrence Ferries. He was great. Doesn't have the greatest bedside manner, but his assistant more than makes up for it. He means business and if you aren't willing to follow his rules, then you are out. But he drove me to success. I had my surgery on April 15/09 and have lost 159 lbs so far.
Hello,
Thanks for replying, great to hear from another Winnipegger..... Can I ask, MB Health covered everything right and how did you travel to Red Deer for the surgery? I flew to Medicine Hat for my consult with Dr. Nohr. I am trying to get a referral for my niece so she can go to her family dr with some names of surgeons that are recommended.

MB Health paid for the following trips. The first consult, the surgery and one follow up appointment. They also paid for my hospital stay and the surgery. I was fortunate that I have a son who lives in Red Deer, so everytime I go there, I kill 2 birds with one stone.
Dr F requires you to see him once a month prior to the surgery to ensure you are sticking to his diet, then after your surgery, he required you to return in 2 weeks and then again in 6 weeks and then every 3 months for the next year and once a year after that (that is to make sure that the surgery is working for you and to ensure there are no complications)
If your not willing to do this much traveling, I wouldn't recomend going to him. Although I have heard that he is one of the best Dr's in AB.
I suggest that your neice do her research online. All the Dr's seem to have differnt requirements. I know that there are 2-3 year waiting lists for the Dr's in Calgary and Edmonton. Dr F doesn't have a waiting list, what he does is opens his phonelines on day in May, your Dr or thier nurse, needs to call in that day and he takes the first 100 patients who's Dr's call in. what I did was take that day off, | went to my Dr's office and made the phonecall for her. Onces I got thru, I asked them to hold and went and got the Dr.
I forgot to mention that I flew to Red Deer for each visit. If you watch the West Jet web site, they always have seat sales, I have paid as little as 49.00 each way plus taxes of course.
Hope this helps.
