Looking into Weight Loss surgery with NO help from my doctor

Hello Everyone,

My doctor has been no help with information on the types of weight loss surgery, what Manitoba Healh covers and doesn't cover, the waiting list and good doctors.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lapband is not covered at all. Gastric By-Pass surgery includes VSG, DS, RNY.

Doctors can depend on type of WLS you are interested in.

Thank you for the information.  I am still not sure which surgery to have.  Any suggestions?

What I did was take a few Dr.'s # and Faxes to my GP and asked him if he would send refferals away for me and he agreed. Go to find a surgeon on OH and you can look for a surgeon closest to you. Or one that you might perpher.

Have you decided what type of WLS you are interested in having?

To be honest I am not sure which one.  I can't afford Lap Band that is very expensive, that would have been my first choice but not an option.

I weigh 290 lbs. and I am not sure which surgeries is the better  or if there there are any differences? 

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Connie, Check out dsfacts.com it has great info on the DS procedure and lists a doc

So Laurie are we going with the DS? I hope we end up going at the same time.

I am leaning heavily  towards having the DS. I grow more impatient and anxious as each day passes. We've been on Dr. Savoie's bench for 5 months and hopefully are calls will be soon. Have you seen the new OH healthtrackers they're not bad. Oh when will you post an avatar to your page?
