I am new
I am looking into gastric bypass surgery and I live in Manitoba I do not have health care other then mB and am recently divorced so can not afford much . My weight has gone up and down for years but now my bmi I am at over 42 and weight 261 lbs and its starting to affect my life. I have hard time working and walking and even sleeping now. I am getting depressed and I need help soon or god knows what will happen. I was not over weight as a child but sinc having my children I became over weight in 2005 I had lost 80lbs but in the last year I put it all back on and then some . I have watched what I eat and tried exercising but I can't seem to go down anymore. I am always hungry an I worked with a coach who told me to drink more fluids but when I do that I run to the bathroom every 5 minutes. Please can someone tell me where I can go to have weight loss surgery in Canada and how much I am looking at trying to put a side for it. I am only working part time so money is an inssue for me . Please help thanks Pauline
What you want to do first thing is go to see your doctor. She will ask you a bunch of questions about your weight history and they will send in a referal. You can be sent to Alberta or BC. But, do be advised the weight lists are loooooong. I have been on a list for 2 years and still waiting. I suggest putting a little bit of money away each month because MB Health doesn't cover everything. Let me know how that goes. Hugz!
Hi there Pauline
You can also go to toronto, there is a group of docs that perform RNY surgery. I had mine 6 weeks ago. You will have many trips to toronto for this procedure. I went at least 5 times. MB health will only cover 3 flights, the consultation, the surgery and one post op. I took MB health to the appeal board and i won so they covered all of my flights. They dont cover any hotel stays so that will be your expense. I had a great doctor by the name of Dr. Starr. He is so informative and funny as well. I am having trouble eating right now and am heading off to toronto this wed for my first post op visit, hopefully he will tell me why i am vomiting and help me fix it. Good luck in your search. My process took one year from my referral being sent out to having the surgery. Hope this helps.
