Winnipeg support group

Hi Guys.  I had lap band surgery at the maples on the 14th of April.  I think a support group would be fantastic.  Maples said they have done over 70 surgeries since they started doing them.. So that means there are over 70 people in the area who have already experienced this, never mind the others who have gone to other places and for other types of WLS.   I'm seeing someone privately for counselling but I know from experience that group support from others who have gone through the same thing can be invaluable.

hope all is going well, I had my surgery done at the Maples on April 28/09.
How are you doing are you losing weight? I lost 18lbd  3 weeks pre-op and 4 after surgery 1 week in. Now I have lost nothing. I am eating very little.

My name is Amy and I had RNY surgery in August  '08 and I am still struggling to get my eating under control, I would LOVE to be a part of any group that comes about here in Winnipeg, I have heard from many people and many times about starting up a group here and I have yet to see it happen. If anyone wants to contact me about helping to start up a group or even a meeting of some type I am all in!!! You can contact me at 284-8647 or 228-9562.

I am putting this group into action if it's the last thing I do! I have a doctors appointment on wednesday and I will ask my doctor if there is someone who can head this group up and if we can use a room in the building for meetings. How often would everyone want to meet? For how long? Just curious. I will get back to you all.

I had ryn on Dec 11 08 with many complications, I too would be interested in a group. I have heard there is one already in winnipeg that meets in a church once a month. Please keep me updated on this and if anyone wants to talk re ryn feel free to call me.

Hi all

I finally met with my dietician, she says she cannot head this group for us as she works for WRHA and not manitoba health. I think i am going to try and contact MB health and see what they can do for us as far as having a professional help us out.  I so want  this support group.  Lets just do it everyone!  Please include me if we get something going.
