Winnipeg support group
I have been reading books on WLS and they have mentioned that support groups are really helpful. I'm not sure if there is an active support group in Winnipeg but if there isn't I was thinking of starting one up. Maybe we could get a nurse who specializes in WLS to faccilitate it so we could have someone knowledgeable in charge. I would be interested in making this happen. Anyone else interested? Where are you getting your after surgery care and follow up from? Seeing any health care people in Winnipeg or just sticking with the place you received surgery from? Would love to hear from you!
Hi my name is Karen and i live in winnipeg and i would be interested in such a group. I'm not sure how after surgery care is worked out when we live here and have surgery in B C. I'm going to make an appointment with my dr. here and ask questions hopefully he'll have answers. I'll let you know. My first consult is with dr. amson in victoria and i'm trying to collect any info. thanks.
Hi there
I would love to be involved in a support group here in winnipeg. I know of a dietician who is on the board of the group that was supposed to start the bariatric program in manitoba but alas it did not happen. She has said she will help me after my first post op visit, maybe she can help all of us manitobans who have had wls and no support here at home. Im in, whenever you start the support group, im so there!! I am 6 weeks post op and not finding this like i thought it would be. This is really hard, the vomiting, the protein shakes non stop etc. You can call me anytime to discuss further if you want. 204-255-4510.
thanks for posting, i have been searching for a support group.

Since so many Manitobans are having bariatric surgery it makes perfect sense to me that we should have a professional help team behind us... in MANITOBA! I, personally, don't have support on my side from people in my life about going for surgery and will need support before, during and after. I am sure that are many more people that would join if we could get something going that's consistent and professionally backed. I would love to talk to the dietitian that said she would help. Thanks for posting Louise!
Hi my name is karen and i as well don't have alot of support with the idea of having this surgery and would be very interested in having a group to join. I don't know of any dietitians or anything like that but maybe if we were all interested in meeting informally somewhere right now just to get to know each other and put our heads together, just talk put some Q's& A's together what do you guy's think? Please feel free to call me 204 952 3396 thanks karen
Hi Karen, i would definately be interested in meeting to discuss things. But please remember just because i have already hade the surgery, i am by far an expert, lol. There are so many things that you dont know or cant know until you experience if for yourself, which is what i am finding out. I have left a message with the Marnie, the dietician that said she would follow me after my surgery to see what she can do for us. She will most likely call me tommorow afternoon as that is when she is next in. I will keep you posted. Oh yah, just a thought, i wouldnt have the lap band, i heave heard to many stories of almost nil weight loss and for that $18,500 i would expect way more than what you get. I met a women who had the lap band, lost some weight but than had to have surgery to remove the lap band as it become embedded in her stomach, the stomach tissue had grown around it, she had it removed by the same surgeon as me and had the RNY at the same time. What a waste of time and money and hope!!
I will keep in touch.
