REALIZE Band on 10/09/12
I live in Winnipeg and I am going to have my doctor send a referral to Dr. Nohr and they told me that the waiting list is 3 years for a consultation. Is that the same for any other surgeons in Canada. How long will I have to wait after that for the surgery? I looked into the lap band in Winnipeg but I cant afford to pay $ 18,000.00. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you. Connie

Hi Connie I had an appt with Dr. Nohr in May 2007 to discuss open RYN surgery (I had to wait from 2004 to 2007 for an appointment). I had surgery on March 13, 2008 and MB Health paid the travel, medical & hospital costs. I understand most have to wait just short of year after their consultation. I know another woman from Wpg who had lap RYN with Dr. Star in Toronto but didn't wait as long. This MB Forum is not active, not sure why??? I always check out the Ontario forum, you can ask questions about wait times there as well... Diane (you can check out my profile for info or email me directly at [email protected])

Hi I too am having surgery with Dr Nohr. The wait formy consult was 3 years but I called every second week and got in early on the cancellation list. My surgery is booked for Nov 10. But if I knew what I know now I wouldnt be going to Dr Nohr. I hear he is very good but I would have searched out a doctor who does it Laperscopicly. And I hear that Dr Starr does it that way and if very good. So before you commit to a doctor do your research. The recovery time from a lap compared to open is very short and way less painfull from what I have heard. Its to late for me to start the process over again so I will go ahead with my surgery but if I were you I would really consider finding a doctor who does it lap style. I wish you all the luck. shelly
