Has anyone had there surgery covered by Manitoba Health and have already had their surgery????The reason I am asking is I am very concerned.I have been approved for surgery out of province.I am having Gbypass surgery done very soon.I was under the impression that they cover the surgery, hospital costs and airfare. I read a post that stated that they only cover $1000.00 for the surgery hospital stay etc...??????Is this true?If so did you receive bills from the hospital/surgeon after???I would hate to be recovering from surgery and be presented with such a bill for several thousand dollars. Please someone put my mind at ease!!!!!!

I have written approval from Manitoba Health stating that I am approved for Gbypass surgery outside of the province.I was also told it wasnt elective surgery you must be referring to banding??

Hi I am from Winnipeg, Manitoba and just had an open RYN surgery in Medicine Hat, Alberta with Dr. Nohr on March 17, 2008. I was approved by MB Health for travel, medical costs. If you have any questions, I would call MB Health directly, more accurate info. Diane Wpg. MB

Diane; May I ask?Did you have to pay any costs for your surgery or hospital stay?I am approved by the province for surgery and they have approved my doctor. My concern is I am being told many things online. The doctor is not with a private clinic. The reason I havent called to confirm this info is I am scared to find out the answer.I have been waiting for nearly 4 years for my surgery and I am so close. My surgery is in a few weeks.I was told my hospital/surgery and air travel (minus the taxes) is covered .I know I am responsible for hotel, taxi service etc.I'm just scared I will be presented with a bill for several thousand dollars.Did you get a bill from the hospital over and above what the province pays?

I just pulled out my MB Health approval letter that I have - hospital benefits will be paid directly to the hospital, MB Health will provide medical (physician) coverage and transportation subsides. I have talked to many people over last few years and I have not heard of this happening in Manitoba. Hope this helps. Diane

Make sure you have everything approved by MB health BEFORE you go, but i had to pay for the flight ahead and then get reimbursed; I paid for taxis, hotels, meals, etc on my own. I preapproved someone flying out to fly back with me after the surgery (mine was in Quebec) and had to pay and submit this as well. The actual surgery - no cost to me at anytime; though one doctor i dealt with in the hospital did send me a bill that i just sent to MB Health to take care of. When in doubt call MB Health but be sure to note who you talk to, and ask for everything to be put in your file!! Glad i did because one person tried to turn down the cost of my friend's ticket to fly back with me. Otherwise was not hard at all and well worth it!!
