Topic: RE: time frame from first class to surgery?
I think this depends on a few different things....the hospital you decide to have surgery at and their program as long as your insurance company and whether or not you run into insurance coverage issues and/or if they have and requirements for WLS. For me, it took awhile for the simple reason that I wanted no surgery but the VSG. Being that my ins company didn't cover it, I had to appeal - twice. So, for me, things took a bit longer at 16-17 months.
You've already taken the first step in signing up for a class...be sure to check with your insurance company too! GL!

Hi
I m having my surgery on sept 12th. I went to my first seminar in february . The insurance companies have changed a lot of requirements ,so it depends on those things. Most people take 4 months, there is a 3 month medically supervised diet for bcbs. All the testing takes about a month . They say if u are private pay its really quick. Good Luck!!

Topic: time frame from first class to surgery?
Hello,
I'm a new member of these boards, and also looking into gastric bypass surgery. I am just starting my journey, and I have signed up for the class you have to take first on 8/24. I was wondering, if all goes well, what is the turn around time, from class to surgery. I know everyone is going to be different, so I'm just looking for an average. I'm hoping to have it done by thanksgiving at the latest but I was wondering if thats going to be out of reach.
Thanks for your replies!!

Topic: RE: Addicted to Ice Coffee...ME???
I have an even worse addiction - DD iced lattes with skim milk! At $3.50 minimum, I am drinking about 3 - 4 a day. I am killing myself financially!!!!
I have lost my sweet tooth, so no sugar or even 1/2 and 1/2. Need a substitute transfer addiction. :--)
Lauren from Northern Connecticut
(also looking for pals near the State Line or a support group. Go monthly to Htfd., but don't have too many close contacts near the Mass. border).

Topic: RE: Can anyone recommend a surgeon in MA who specializes in bariatric surgery revisions?
I recommend my surgeon, Dr. David B. Lautz at the Brigham & Women's. He has had considerable experience doing lapband to RNY revisions...he did mine but of course he did my lapband too.
He is one the top bariatric surgeons in New England and handles a lot of "difficult" cases that other surgeons wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole. He has excellent surgical skills and is very busy.
Good Luck!

I think I was! Everytime they asked what surgery they would say bypass or band? I would say sleeve and there was always a short pause! Dr. Cohen is the only one that performs these surgeries and he was great!

Cusscuss - congrats on your surgery! I had no idea you had surgery at Umass! You must've been one of their first (if not the FIRST) VSG for them! Yay for them moving forward!
