Got home around 7:30. Just wanted to share my story with everyone! It was one heck of a ride! This story is from my blog.
Day 1 (Wed 9.29.10)
Heading to surgical admissions, I was ready to pass out from nerves...lol. Got admitted and took a pee test for pregnancy. Then I got changed to a gown and waited for the next instructions. About a half hour later, I was told anesthesia was ready for me, as well as the surgeon - way ahead of schedule. Aghhh seriously? I didn't have much time to soak it all in...lol. Got my IV all set and waited a couple minutes to meet the Anest. and the Surgeon. Got wheeled into the OR and I saw the tiles and lights above start to blank out. I was fighting to stay awake...lol. Woke up in recovery, in a bit of pain. I remember having a tough time snapping out of anesthesia. I was in and out of it for a couple hours. When I finally stayed awake, I was wheeled into my room.
Admitted: 1pm
Surgery: 2:15pm
Surgery done: 4:30
Out of Recovery: 8pm
Day 2 (Thu 9.30.10)
Was feeling a bit better. Was hooked to morphine pump (best thing ever). Started sipping on 1 oz of water. Got up to walk a few times. By the end of the night I was moved to stage 2 - sip 3 oz of water in one hour.
Day 3 (Fri 10.1.10)
Was taken off morphine, taking percocet by mouth. Had catheter taken out, went pee on my own. Walked some more. Feeling pretty good at the time. Had JP drain removed, was certain I was going to be discharged this afternoon. WRONG! Was switched over to carnation instant breakfast for that evening and I got so sick (fever, nausea, chills). At this point I was crying and had regret of what I did to myself. The docs, nurses and hubby reassured me I was doing great and that this shall pass. Was given meds for pain, nausea and IV fluids again so I don't get dehydrated. Was told I'm staying another day to be monitored.
Day 4 (Sat 10.2.10)
Woke up feeling better. Nausea went away, was taking fluids alright. Walking alot. Took carnation better today. First bowel movement in 5 days! Was told I can go home in the afternoon. Yippee! Got home, took a nice shower. Hearing funny gurgling noises in the intestines now. Kinda gives me the sign to run to the bathroom for poop....lol.
So that's it! Glad to be done with this, glad to be on the loser's bench finally (although I won't be losing yet, gained almost 15lbs in fluids! This certainly wasn't easy, it's a major life change. Now I'll be asking more questions related to postop stuff :) Hope everyone else who had surgery this week are doing well!
And thank you OH family for being helpful and supportive. I brought my laptop to the hospital to keep up with this site (encouragement) and of course, keep in touch with family and friends. Will post up pics soon.

Hi,
You are definety having gas pains. The c02 they use to blow up your belly so they can see everything causes the left shoulder pain. Just keep doing what you are doing..and it will pass.

Topic: RE: Having second thoughts!!!! vsg
Are you talking about people you know or this forum? The VSG if fairly new to this area as medical insurance has just started covering it so not many people have had it. Its best to visit the VSG forum for support directly related to the VSG itself (they know a lot about the surgery).
As for horror stories - I've done quite a bit of research and haven't run across any that made me change my mind. There have been some horrific stories of leaks but as long as you work with your doctor and report symptoms then they can be fixed. Some people have a rough start but in the end they are glad they did it.
I'm glad I revised to VSG so far.........I'm sure once its done you will be happy also.
Good luck
