Topic: Hungry!
A question for those who have already had surgery or are scheduld soon: how did you manage the weeks leading up to it? I'm scheduld for bypass on 1/3/11, and started the HMR 500 liquid diet yesterday (they want me on it for 3 weeks, because I didn't lose enough leading up to it).
I'm doing exactly what I'm supposed to (at least, I think I am): 5 shakes/day (or the chicken soup flavor), made with water, and at least 64 oz of additional water. I don't dislike the shakes, which was a big relief... I worried that they would taste awful. I've mixed in a tsp. of sugar free jello mix a couple of times, and last night I did make my final shake with milk instead of water, and added a bananna.
The problem is, I'm starving! By 2 pm yesterday, all I could think about was food. Today, I've had 2 shakes so far... planning another early this afternoon, one when I get home from work, and the last one before bed. With 19.5 days to go, I'm really hoping I won't be this hungry or worse the whole time!
I go back to see the Physician's assistant next week, but in the meantime, I'm hoping someone who has been there can tell me if I'm doing something wrong. I'm having my surgery at Lahey Clinic, if that makes a difference; I know the approach/requirements can vary between hospitals.
Thanks!

We went to an art show and a photographer was offering a free photo shoot and one free image. I had no idea John would be such a good sport in front of the camera - I'm a total ham. The photographer did a great job - she earns a living as a wedding photographer, and I gotta say, if I get married, I would DEFINITELY consider her!

Topic: RE: pre-op weight loss
I've been struggling with it for a few months; I lost around 8 lbs, but not enough. My surgery is scheduled for Jan. 3, and my doctor put me on the HMR 500 liquid diet for 3 weeks (if I'd lost a little more weight, it would have been 2 weeks). Even if your surgeon doesn't normally do it, maybe it's worth looking into? Today is my first day on it, so I can't say much about its' effectiveness, but I'm completely confident in the hospital I'm using so if they say it works, I believe it!
On the other hand, I've also heard of people using Weigh****chers to lose the weight pre-op. You can even do WW online, and a few months of that might be just what you need.
Good luck!

IMO the premium service is not needed - it gives you more analytical tools - I just want to know steps and calories and I can get that for free. There is a facebook group I'll invite you in if someone hasn't already!

Do you or any of the others subscribe to the Premium service or just the free service? And someone was mentioning there is a group either on Fitbit or Facebook?
