Yes, that can be common after surgery - you are still full of the gas that they pump into your stomach for surgery and yes it will get much easier to drink water

I went to Tufts (hello surgeon sister!) .... they provide you with hand lotion, mouthwash, toothbrush etc. At least they provided me this. I brought my cell phone and I also highly recommend bringing your camera ... take pictures along the way. The morning of surgery I got a photo in front of the giant teddy bear and exactly one year to the date of my surgery I went back and took after photos in front of the teddy bear again ... sooooo glad I did this!

I brought my ipod and a wordsearch to use but I did not use it. Definitely bring a change of clothes and some baby wipes. Maybe bring some lotion/toothbrush supplies just in case they no longer give you the toiletries supply pack (I was sooo thankful they gave it to me.) Oh, I also had to have my mom go to the giftshop b/c I forgot hair elastics lol. Just pulling my hair back into a ponytail was such a relief

You will be in the hospital a total of 3 days ... expensive to leave your car in the parking garage. Are you able to get a ride from someone? The first 30 mins is free in the garage (the first 30 mins is also free for valet; minus the tip.) On the day of my discharge my parents did valet when they picked me up - so much quicker and easier than getting in and out of the garage. Having to not pay for the first 30 minutes and just leaving a tip was much more convenient.

Best of luck on your surgery ... I can't say enough good things about Dr. Shikora!!!

Hi Coreen13 - I am over 4 yrs out and I remember I didn't drink much either at that time.  You always feel full.  I use to forget to eat sometimes.  Are you taking tiny sips?  Sometimes when you take in to much at once could cause a problem.  Also, don't drink out of a straw...and you are not having anything with bubbles right???   My tummy use to hurt when I had dairy....but it is fine now when I eat/ drink it.  As far as the belching I would do that when I ate or drank to fast.  Just remember tiny sips and when you are finally able to eat regular food make sure you CHEW, CHEW, CHEW   However,  If this continues I would  definately call your Drs. office and let them know of your problem.

Best of luck to you and Congratulations on making the best decision of your life.

Niecie

Stretchy clothes/lounge wear, chapstick, mouth wash, bathroom stuff ...that was it. If I was awake I was up and walking or watching TV ...or I was sleeping. MM is right, it's pretty hard to do much on morphine. Your biggest challenge aside from walking will be remembering to drink 1 oz of liquid every 15 minutes.

How much are you drinking? You should be drinking 1 oz every 15 minutes. And I'm pretty sure your other liquids count aswell - Jello, broth, popsicles, etc

Hey there...  Congrats on going thru with the procedure...that is great.  I'm having mine with Dr. Sandor at Lawrence Memorial in Medford on the 25th...I know that he does surgeries at Winchester Hopsital as well, along with Dr. Ameri.  Sorry for that useless info lol, but thought I would give you a backround... hehe   My friend had her surgery on Nov. 22, and she never mentioned any trouble taking her water and always has a water bottle in hand.  This really means nothing, since she may have just been trying to stay strong and spare me any details... Hopefully not!  But I'm curious for you as well...and hope that you feel better soon!  Did you have the surgery at Winchester Hospital?  A phone call to the doctors office is a good call too if you dont get any feedback...come on people stop slackin!! And why your at it, fill me in on how to upload my pictures on here lol...I have nothing under 20,000 pixels and really dont grasp the concept as it is!  Good luck Coreen13!  And would be great to know more people going thru the process, so stay in touch!   Kaitlin

Topic: RE: fear of failure?
It will -- it takes time to discover your new normal.

First your weight should bottom out and you will find place to land, this may include a few pounds up.  You're likely not done yet.

After that, you will feel skinny -- but your brain doesn't connect.

I'd say it's about the third year when you realize - THIS IS ME.  I own this.

 Nothing.

You will be cracked out on morphine and busy getting up to walk the hall, go pee and go back to bed.  You won't pick up a book.

Enjoy your medicated staycation.

Lip-balm, flushable wipes, face wipes.  You're good.

Topic: fear of failure?
Any of you felt this way?
You get to a size that you haven't been in 15 years and you are scared?
I'm not scared of being too thin - it's just the fear of failure and bouncing back up to size 26.

I'm 90 pounds down after a year and have about 10-20 pounds left.

My life has been turned upside down - tons of energy, decaffeinated, de-alcoholed.
I volunteer at scouts and Church.  For "fun" I hike and do video projects.
I'm loving yoga, spin and weight lifting.
Overall I am so grateful and happy to be where I am.

I also reached non weight related goals last year - I ran, did a "pike" on an exercise ball, did spin classes and got back into Yoga.

So, why am I finding it hard to believe that I fit into a size 12 pant?

My mind needs to catch up with my body.

Topic: 5 days out - hard to drink water
I had RNY on Monday.  I'm home from the hospital now and find it hard to drink water.  It makes me feel like I'm full of air, tummy hurts and have to belch a lot.  Is that common?  Does it get easier to drink water?  Don't want to get dehyrdrated but I'm not getting much water in.
