I just wanted to let people know that BMC offers a weight loss support group on Monday nights at the Marriot Hotel in Quincy (1200 Crown Colony Drive, Quincy 02169) from 6 - 7:30 PM. Plenty of parking. If you need to take a ticket (sometimes not all the time they have the gate to the parking lots up) the hotel will stamp it and will not need to pay while there. Closest stop is the Quincy Adams MBTA Station. If you take the "T" it is probably a 15 minute walk up the Crown Colony hill HOWEVER if you call the Marriott they will send the shuttle to pick you up at the ""T" station. It is however best to drive.

I personally would love to get together with you and/or others. I have been looking for someone to exercise with since I had surgery 2 years ago. I, too, had the Lap Band and have lost 100 pounds. I would like to lose just 10 more pounds, even though I have been told I will still at that point be 16 pounds over weight which is okay with me because I am currently between a size 8 - 10. If I lose 10 more pounds I will be a solid size 8. I don't want to go to a gym, but rather I would like someone to walk with (outside since the weather at this time of year is great and maybe during the winter at a mall. The malls allow people in early before the stores open so that people can exercise/walking. Where do you live? I live just outside of Boston. Downtown Boston, Cambridge, Quincy, South Boston are easy for me to get to by MBTA.
I am not sure about the insurance question but Dr. Sandor is awesome and so is Kathy. You will be so happy you went there :)

HI. I am 3 years out from RNY (Sept 2011) and down 120 lbs. I am hosting an event for my cousin Kara, author of the book Gorge, in Dedham MA on June 12th. It'll feature a reading, workout w/Kara (or just cheer her on), healthy food/beverage vendors passing out free samples, and it all benefits St Francis House in Boston. You should come!

Hi Everyone,
I had the lap band done April 2013 and I've lost 79lbs which is great, but I want to lose another 40-50 lbs. I've been struggling lately with the motivation to eat healthy and work out. I wanted to know if anyone who lives near or outside of Boston would like to get together for a support group and work out. We can meet a few times a week for work out at a gym that is convenient to everyone and help support each other through this weight loss journey. It doesn't matter if you haven't had surgery yet or you've met your goal I want everyone to feel welcome. Please respond if this is something you'd be interested in.
Thanks
Amanda

Sounds like you have the perfect attitude for success :) Health issues are challenging but you've got the positive attitude on which is helpful and shows the people around you just how strong you are :-D
Thanks for the head's up on the state board. It's really a shame it's not more active. I think it would be a great place to start forming local groups and the like. I shall prowl some today :)
Hi everyone! I just thought I'd post to say hello, introduce myself and reintegrate myself into the OH forums.
I am 6 years out from my laproscopic roux-en-Y. It was done by Wareham Surgical Associates at Tobey Hospital in Wareham. I've since moved up to Billerica and have been looking for an active support group but haven't found anything within my availability yet.
I used my post-op journey to take myself to the next level. I left behind my food addiction and fell face-first into an unhealthy addiction to the gym which I overcame by taking more control of my workout thought-process and educating myself to the fitness world. I now am in the process of working to be a certified personal trainer (on top of my full-time profession which makes it a long LONG process) but have also started coaching folks. My goal and hope is to spend my efforts helping other post-ops that are looking for where to start, what's good for them, looking for something new or... just needing a friend to be supportive. Even with a great support system like I had in the Tobey program, I still feel like fitness is the one area where there's just not enough coaching... I wonder if others have had different experiences with other programs locally?
So... that's my and my mini-intro. Hope to get to know some folks in our area!
