Not sure what surgery to go for
Hi Joshua,
I had lap band surgery done in August 2004 and weighed 290lbs. Today I weigh 179.
I'm so glad I chose lap band over RNY. My recovery was faster and weight loss just as quick. My surgery was laproscopic so there was minimal scarring.
Regardless of what people say - RNY surgery is inherently riskier than lap band. There is so much more that can go wrong. Lap band has fewer problems with vitamin/mineral absorbtion versus RNY. A lap band is adjustable. A lap band is relatively easy to reverse should there ever be a need or desire for that (fat chance with me!).
In the end it is up to you. Personally, I'm glad that my digestive system is intact and I have all the benefits of a controlled appetite that has allowed me to lose 110 pounds and still feel good during the process.
Hi Joshua,
When I went to my original pre-op discussion meeting I was going to have Open RNY. I then decided that I didn't want a big long scar. I didn't want the lap band. I didn't want to have to go back for adjustments as the lap band requires and LAP band is if you don't want to lose alot of weight. I chose LAP RNY and glad I did. I have 6 small scars barely noticeably that blend in well with my 6 small scars from gall bladder surgery 4 months earlier.
Good luck with whichever procedure that you have done.
