:-D I have a date!!!!!!
Hi Guys!
I have a date!! It is on Feb 6, 2006. I am getting scared! I have to lose weight for the surgery and I have only been able to lose 5lbs. I need to lose more. Being under anesthia is really freaking me out! Can anyone that has gotten the surgery at Saints Memorial Medical Center tell me your experience? I am just scared of not been able to wake up!
Well wish me luck!
Steph
HI there!
I am also scheduled for February 6th. I will be getting the LapBand, and I am SO excited!
I actually had my gall bladder out about a year ago, and had to have general anestesia. Don't worry - you will be SO out of it, you will be out cold before you know it, and groggy in recovery in no time!!
Best of luck, Stephanie, and I can't wait to meet you on the losing side - on the same day!! February 6th is the best!!!!!!
Steph,
That was also my biggest fear, the anesthesia. I had never been under general anesthesia before, but everything went well. My surgery took much longer than expected. I went in to the OR at 9:30 and when I woke up it was after 5, and it felt like I had just fallen asleep. For me, the worst part was taht they took out the ventilator after I woke up, but it was not nearly as bad as I imagined. Don't worry, you'll be fine! Good luck to you!

hi Steph, Congratulations on your date!! I'm also going through Saints Memorial Weight Loss Program. My first appt with the doctor is Feb 3rd.
I'm sure you're concerned with anesthia, but you shouldn't be! I've 5 surgeries (3 knee and 2 foot, 3 of the 5 being done at Saints Memorial) all under anesthia and have had no problems or complications. To be honest, I think the anesthia is the easiest part!!
Anesthesiologists are trained to know how much to administer, cautious of your vitals and watch them throughout the surgery. Normally before surgery, you have an appointment to meet with the anesthesiologist who will be with you during surgery, if you have concerns, you should voice them then. I can tell you waiting in the operating room is a little nerve racking, but once the anesthia is administered and they tell you to start counting back (yes its just like in the tv shows where they say that) you'll say 10, 9, 8 maybe a 7 and thats it!
When you wake up you're in a recovery unit with nurses that are there to help with any and everything you need (if you're cold ask for a warm blanket, they're great)! Best of luck with your surgery can't wait to read your post-op posts
