Hi everyone, Just joined and learning about the procedures now. I have my consult at Salem Hospital on Nov 17, can't wait. I have learned a lot from this site and others. I am seeking to have the lap band done. Someone told me I would have to always wear a cathoda? {sp?} Is anyone familiar with this?

Hi William..good luck to you....I am guessing that you mean a catheter. In general terms a catheter is a "tube" there are different types of catheters...foley catheters are used in the urethra to drain urine from the bladder. Most people have them during and for a day or so after surgery. It does not hurt and is nice because they pump you so full of fluids and you would be getting up to pee every few minutes. Another type of catheter is an IV you will have an iv during your hospital stay but it will come out when you can drink enough yourself. Feel free to ask any other questions.
