Fat Cats and Portly Pooches?

Hi all,

I am working on an article on obesity in animals for ObesityHelp Magazine. Have any of you (like me) had an animal with a weight problem?
If so...
What was your pet eating when it gained weight?
How often was it fed? (did you free-feed?)
What did you do to help your pet lose weight?
Did your pet develop obesity co-morbidities?
Did those co-morbidities resolve when the weight came off?

I'd love to hear from you.

Send me high-res pictures if you would like us to consider printing a picture of your pet in the magazine or on the magazine website when the article goes to print.

Please reply to this post or send me an e-mail at [email protected].

Thanks!!!

Hi I have a a portly pooch, and a fat cat. My portly pooch is a bassett hound who is 62 pounds. I rescued her from a bassett rescue and she was obese at the time. Her former owner was depressed and ended up hospitalized for depression so she constantly fed her. I put her on diet food, walked her daily, and got her down to around 58 pounds. Since we have a child, who feeds her quite a bit, she is now back up to her fighting weight of 62 pounds. She is fed 2x per week but tends to find foods by rooting them out of a bag or opening the door to the 'treat' cabinet and helping herself. she once ate a half bag of dog bones at one sitting. She will now boycott her diet dog food because she knows the baby will drop something more tasty. The mailman even leaves her dog bones daily. She is awfuly cute but has only one eye so she might be a scary cover dog. My fat cat is 7-8 years old and was also rescued as a kitten, was hand fed because his mom passed away. He was fed bagels and cream cheese and subs when he was at the vet hospital, they just gave him people food. though he no longer eats people food, he is free fed (since I have two cats) and eats ad lib. He doesnt seem to eat that much, but he is quite large weighing in at 17 pounds. Luckily neither have co-morbidities thus far... hopefully that is what you need Stella
