Any pre-op dieting tips?? I need help
I have to lose more pounds by March 7th for my surgery to be done and I am having such a hard time. I have been going to the gym faithfully and I am eating only health things. I am starving but I am doing it because I need to, however I havent really lost a lot of weight. I am wondering if its because i recently got the Depo shot because I had to come off my birth control pills for surgery, they cause blood clots. I am just really frustrated and i want to give up....does anyone have any tips or words of wisdom. I would appreicate it! Thanks
Hi Jessica
Most every WLS patient knows the frustration of dieting and exercising with poor results, thats why we opted for surgery!
The only diet advice I have is to try and mimic the post surgery diet, mostly liquids (thin soups, Carnation Instant Breakfast etc.) and drink at least 64 ounces of water per day. If nothing else, you'll discover which brands of products you like best so you'll be ahead of the game in selecting products after your surgery. Also, if you've been hitting the gyn, you may be putting on muscle which weighs more than fat. You may be losing fat and getting thinner without losing weight. If this is what is going on with you, your weight loss should start happening very soon as your extra muscle helps you to burn calories.
I'm not a doctor or health care professional so you should check with your health care provider for the best advice.
I know just how you feel. I also need to lose 20-30 pounds because I want to have it done laproscopic. I never ate breakfast so I started having sugar free carnation instant breakfast with simply smart fat free milk. At lunch I pack a salad to take to work then at supper I eat a healthy choice, lean cuisine or something like that. I was always a late night snacker so now I only have sugar free jello. This has startred to work for me but only just recently started this. Your question about the depo shot is a good one. I dont have to take birth control {had the Dr take care of this baby factory along time ago, I have 4 kids} but my oldest daughter was getting the depo and she had the Dr stop it because she kept gaining weight. She stopped and lost all the weight she had gained. Lucky her she does not have her mothers weight issue. Good luck and if you find anything that seems to work, please let me know.
