Follow-up care

Hi everyone, I need to vent about what I feel are lapses in my follow-up care. Has anyone else had problems getting to see the doctor or getting things done AFTER the surgery? I waited 2 weeks to get an appointment following my upper GI, finally scheduled for today and then it was cancelled! Because of the continued vomiting and upper GI I could not return from my medical leave at the scheduled time and faxed a request to have it extended to the surgeon's office. They say they never got it and so my short term disability insurance was stopped because the surgeon's office never extended the leave with my employer! Sooooo, I am going on 3 weeks without a paycheck, I can't get the leave extended, the insurance continued or return to wor****il I see the surgeon because it is useless to talk to anyone on the phone! I feel like I have to hand carry these forms and make sure the surgeon fills them out myself! The office staff was less than pleasant when I complained about these delays. On top of this, the office has no dietician, no support group at this location and I am still struggeling with the @!#$%*& pureed food stage (most of which does not agree with me) so I feel like I am left to my own to figure out what to do and what to eat. This will all probably be resolved tomorrow, but I am mighty angry and need to vent and everyone I know is at work! Thank goodness this place is here to vent and that I'm losing weight like crazy. That makes the aggravation worth while! Luann LapRNY 9/14/04 -44+

Sorry to hear that you are having such trouble getting follow up care. You are just going to have to keep nagging....as hard as that is. Your health care is important...especially follow up for this surgery. I am hoping that some of the other patients from your surgeon's office will see your problem and give you some helpful hints on how to deal with this office. Good luck!

I have to ask--- where did you have your surgery?! And, keep on them, squeaky wheels! I had great F/U care... I made a repeat visit back to the ER at NEMC and they were so good to me! (DH did too...) Beth 313/298/167/130
