introduction (overdue!) from a lurker...
hello everyone,
i did try and put my profile up last week but the site didn't take it so i will get it up eventually! i had my lap rny 9/15/04 and had a really good experience. i was at newton-wellesley with dr. partridge. i was prepared for a high high amount of pain but after the first day, the only pain i had was in my back from the bed.
i was held in the hospital an extra three days because the catscan showed a shadow which could have been a leak. because my tests had been good, i felt good, i wasn't in pain, the surgeon decided on a conservative approach of keeping me in the hospital, nothing by mouth, without going back in surgically, to see if the next catscan showed any change. she observed the second swallow test in person and there was no leak - just a shadow from where the stomach and bowel were attached. so i began my fluids that afternoon and was released the next day.
i came home from the hospital having gained a pound from 6 days of IV fluids. then over the next 5 days, i lost 20 pounds! wow!
i've been freaked out that the past 11 days I haven't lost even one pound! these boards kept me sane about that.
i have not been a yo-yo dieter. i've been the same weight for nearly 19 years. i think my body is thinking it's starving to death. i am usually getting in 32 oz of waters, getting in my protein, having my vitamins, running up and down 2 flights of stairs (I have an 18 month old!), and starting to walk about 1 mile a few times a week. no budging!
I know I shouldn't weigh daily but what the heck! why not? if i had been weighed after one week and no movement, I think I'd be super depressed.
I've gotten alot of help from what I've read and hope I can do the same.
Susan
Hi Susan,, Dr Partridge is wonderful, isnt she? She did my Lap RNY on 4/7/04 and i can't say enough good things about her!! I know what you mean about the scale, i still step on it daily, i just dont let it ruin my day. at the beginning, at least for me, and it still sort of works this way, i'll go like 2 weeks or more without losing anything, then suddenly one day i step on and 5 or 7 lbs gone! Sounds like you are doing everything right and the scale will suddenly drop on you without warning.. congrats and good luck!! ~Kim
