I had surgery on the 14th and ended up back in the hospital with a C-Dif (?sp) infection from the antibiotic. Home today after 5 more days in the hospital. I'm getting in the protein but very light headed. Any advice.

Hi Mary, sorry to hear you've had some difficulties. Hopefully, now you are on your way to feeling great. It gets better every day. I was wondering if you are taking blood pressure medication. I was quite lightheaded for awhile and it didn't dawn on me to check my blood pressure. Sure enough I was too low and stopping the medication fixed the problem. Good luck! Karen

Sorry about your difficulty Mary! (Ooops no pun intended! LOL!) I went into surgery on 9/14 being treated for my 3rd bout of c. diff. I got an antibiotic that would not make things worse for the c.diff. while in the hospital, but ended up with a wound infection and on 2 other antibiotics that may make it flare up again. I have been treated long term with oral doses of Vancomycin (strong prescription antibiotics) but more importantly, long term use of probiotics, things like lactobacillus that promote a good immune environment. I cannot swallow these capsules right now as I recover, but I am looking for ways to get more probiotics in the limited 3 stage diet such as checking to make sure that the yogurt I eat has active cultures and I am looking for a new yougurt drink by Dannon called Danactives which has even more probiotic cultures. I may need to look to a natural foods strore for that! Ask your doctor about taking either Culturelle or FlorQ (special order at most drug strores) as a daily probiotic supplement when you are able to swallow pills again. And you will need to do this any time you are on antibiotics for a very long time. The c. diff spores live a very long life and take advantage of any dip in the environment to take over! I am fully expecting a flare up despite our best efforts. Good luck. Here is a website for more info http://cdiffsupport.com/ Luann LAP RNY 9/14/04 -20 since pre-op exam visit on 8/18/04
