HI Liz, Sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time. I heard it was normal to feel depressed for a while after surgery. But, I was also told that it does pass with time. You will have less pain, more energy, and not regret having the surgery. Did you say that you do not have a followup visit for 5 weeks? I already have a post-op follow-up visit scheduled for Sept 29 and my surgery is Sept 13th. Did you have an open procedure or laproscopic? Sue

Hey Liz, I am with you on the sleep thing. Sleeping on my back is a pain and I cannot wait for that to change. I sometimes end up sleeping on the chair in our living room with my feet up as I sleep better there then in the bed!!! Have you been doing any walking. I have been getting out to walk every day for half an hour to an hour if I do two walks. I am bored to though but have found some good books to read. I also find myself on the phone a lot. Hope you are feeling better and hope to see you Friday. Ginny

You said it hun - sleep is a big thing - if I could just get 8 hours of good sleep I bet I would feel better. I have only been walking around my back deck because he really scared me (Dr. Hess) by telling me I could not do anything until I see him Sept. 10th. Plus if I go walking in my neighborhood alone and fall, that will be it. And my house - OMG my house is a friggin MESS! One of my friends even offered to vacuum for me today. Maybe because I had complications Dr. Hess put me on lock down. For sleep now I lay on my left side and put a sturdy pillow right under my middle where all the incisions are - that seems to help, but the sciatic nerve really is killing me. I am going to Support Group in Boston tomorrow night - they ain't gonna like to hear about all my problems, but someone was bound to have something go wrong at some point, so it just had to be me I guess My appointment on Friday is at 8:45 am, so if Dr. Hess does not come out of the room you know what happened - hehehehe Liz

Gee, sorry about your troubles Liz. It is very troubling to me that you would have that much pain this far out from surgery. Are they giving you anything for pain? The sciatica can be treated with some medications, like neurontin. It doesn't always work, but what are they trying for you? In this day and age there are several pain medications that work wonders. Does your physician know what's going on? A sleeping pill would be a good idea as well, without rest pain is that much worse. Hope you are feeling better soon. Joe

When I say does your physician knows what's going on, I mean going on with you. It came out as if I was insulting your MD, which is not my intention at all. Damn that 350 on the english SAT.

Hi Liz, I'm sorry to hear what you are going through. In reading your experience its really making me think long and hard about my decision. I don't have a date yet, but I know its coming. I'm nervous because knowing my health history I would be one to experience so many complications. My concern is I just started a new job and my surgery most likely be schedule for the end of the year, but I'm hoping not having to take too much time off and then end up losing my job. Keep us posted on your progress. Get better soon!! My prayers are with you.
