Good Evening Everyone!

I am new to this forum. I'm pretty sad to see that the Massachusetts forum isn't used as much. I live about 15-20 minutes outside of Boston and I work in the medical area of Boston. I have been looking into weight loss surgery for the longest time. (I am 22, and about 300 pounds.) I have tried, what feels like every diet and weight loss remedy that exist. I have tried clean eating with exercise added. I have tried diet pills. :/ I have tried slim fast shakes, herbalife shakes, protein shakes, veggie smoothies. If you think it, I have probably tried it. I don't come from the greatest family. (Just me and my father. I'm more the parent and take on most of the stress, which doesn't help with weightloss.) I have always been over 200 pounds for as long as I can remember....since I was about 12 years old. I have considered weight loss surgery and looked into it but I told myself I could do it with regular diet and exercise. Without getting too into everything, whatever I lost, I gained back plus an extra 10 pounds. Anyway, I am mainly here for support from anyone who would like to give me support. Also, any and all advice is appreciated. :)

I'm also from Mass.  and in the early stages of obtaining Sleeve surgery..   it seems like a long process.  I'm going through SouthCoast Weight loss center in Wareham,Ma.   The process takes 3-4 months.  For me, this feels like the right thing to do.  I'm wishing you the best.  I would suggest you do a ton of research.. good luck and stay in touch.

That's awesome. I still have yet to obtain health insurance which is horrible! But I am working on getting health insurance, and I'm still looking into hospitals. I live on the north shore and work in Boston so I am looking at mainly MGH, Brigham and Womens and possibly Tufts Medical Center. I haven't really heard much about any of them but I'm trying to research a lot. It seems like the hospitals in Boston require a 6 month process before obtaining a surgery date whi*****ludes psychologist, blood work, nutritionist, and other testings as needed, which seems reasonable. They also require a $500-$600 fee that is not included through insurance, which is going to be tough for me to come up with but I will definitely try my hardest to save. I would definitely love to keep in touch and learn more from you during your process. I wish you the best of luck in obtaining your surgery and during your process and journey. :)

Welcome to the Forum.  I also wish the Massachusetts forum was more active, but many of us post here, get little response, and then move to the more active forums.  I do check in occasionally.  Lets try to make it more active!

I had my surgery 2.5 years ago at Lahey.  I lose 225 pounds, going from a BMI of 60 to a BMI of 24.  I love my sleeve, and would do it again in a minute for these results.

How long did it take you to "recover" A lot of sites say to take 2-3 weeks off of work. I worked with a woman who had bypass laprascopicly and she said she was back to work in like 4 days. 

I work part time from home, so my situation is not so typical, but I was back to attending meetings and doing projects by day 5 post op.  If you have an active job, and a lot of demands, I think taking 2 or 3 weeks off is wise. 

Although I was mostly functioning by day 5, I was tired for months, and would take long naps mid-day.  But I was 64 when I had surgery, and I don't know how much my age contributed to the tiredness.

I am a newbee.  I am in the process of getting all the pre-op stuff right now.  My surgeon asked me if I had a weight I was looking to be post surgery.  I didn't.  Just want to be healthier.  Then he gave me a 55-80# weight loss estimate.  I want the sleeve.  It seems as though everyone on here has achieved much more than that.  dont get me wrong any weight loss at this point and i will be thrilled. lol  I have a BMI of 62. ugh!

Any thoughts...is it really possible to go beyond the 55-80#'s?

I had surgery (RNY) in April of 2010 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Brighton.  The entire process preop took about 3-4 months and they were awesome!  I have had other surgeries prior to this and every time, the hospital was top notch!  My surgeon was Dr. Nicole Pecquex, who still is the director there for the program.  They have a great lifetime program and the nutriitionists I worked with were great.  

I was 325 when I had surgery but older than you (in my early 40s) and lost 185.  Still maintaining the loss but did gain 20lbs over my goal weight right now, due to a chronic back condition that caused me constant pain.  2 weeks ago, I finally (after dealing with the condition for 6 years) had back surgery.  I am so excited to be able to exercise again once I recover from the lumbar surgery.  Let me know if you have any questions and feel free to personal message me/add me if you like.
