I have an appointment with my surgeon at Umass tomorrow. What should I expect at this appointment. I have a slew of questions written down. Will I be poked and prodded? Should I shave my legs, lol(just kidding). Hubby wants to go but I don't want him to. Is this the appointment where I start getting appts. for pretesting?
Congrats on this step!
I don't remember much about the first appointment, except he took a picture at the end and I was like.. what the heck is this?!?! lol I don't remember any poking/prodding, just talking and getting weighed. That was traumatic for me. But they're great there and they are so respectful and not judgemental at all when you hop on that scale. They're very helpful there.
Bring a list of questions. He'll tell you the process and what happens next and whether or not he wants you to exercise right now. At the end you'll be ready for the next step.. and hate having to wait. At least I did.
I went alone, but had wished my husband was there for the education. He did recommend that I bring my husband to the monthly support meeting (I think he recommends this to everyone) and my husband did come and that meeting was very helpful for him in supporting me. I think it showed him this really is a permanent change and he needs to be sensitive to my needs (the big thing for me was no alcohol in the house.. I don't care if he goes to a sports bar, but please keep our house "safe" for me, wine was a big weakness for me). Somehow, my months of explaining this to him was worthless, but this one hour in this meeting made all the difference in the world in his ability to understand what I needed him to do to help me out.
Good luck. Let us know how it goes!

Thanks for all your replies. I survived the appointment. He only checked my gut (measured the bounce, lol). Listened to lungs. Now we wait for them to submit to BC/BS and wait some more.
